Crime: 13 September 2011

13/9 Tuesday 1.30 a.m. Ashton Place. Vamoose Burglary. Entry through the back door using the catflap to unlock the door. Handbag, laptop, keys and a white Audi S3 index L 16 SAH stolen. We had a burglary in Windsor using the same MO:
12/9 – 13/9 Monday 10 p.m. / Tuesday 4.30 a.m. Clewer Fields. Burglary. A thief has climbed over the rear garden, then reached in via a dog flap to open the rear kitchen door – the key had been left in the lock – handbag and contents stolen. The thief exited via the front door – which they left open – it was obviously not deadlocked ! Whenever you leave your house – or go up to bed – front and rear doors must be deadlocked and alarms set. No keys are to be left in any doors. They must be placed in an easy to locate position, in case of fire.  Somewhere it would take a thief more than 5 minutes to find.  There is no purpose in locking internal doors. If a thief does get in, they will simply force them open, causing considerable damage. The idea is very simple. Protect your perimeter. Make you house more difficult to break into, than another down the road. Opportunist thieves always go for the easiest option. They are opportunists. Like our car criminals. If they can walk down a row of car door handles and find a car left open – that is the option they will chose. It is easier to walk in, than break in. If they can see door keys left in a lock through a window – they will smash a window to break in, knowing they can get out easily. DON’T MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM !
