Crime: 17 October 2011

All back in one piece. I was nearly able to send a single message to the whole area, as crime has been so low over the weekend !

Next – if you have a laptop, or a phone which can download ‘apps’, can you make sure you have secured it, with one of the many security tracker systems that are now available either for free or a small charge via the internet. We cannot of course recommend one system over another. We just want you to have installed one of them – please. I have just searched online for ‘Laptop tracker’ and several excellent free installations came up. They remain dormant upon your system, until you activate them remotely from another computer. They can pinpoint the location of the laptop / phone without the thief being aware, track its movements on a map, in the case of laptops with an internal webcam – photograph whoever is using it and transmit the image to you as well as transmit details of all systems being used and sites accessed. If we all did this and the thieves became aware, the risks associated with s tealing laptops and phones would remove any value from them. We have recently had some brilliant results using this technology and thieves arrested in possession of the equipment ! We can also track the equipment through to the handler ! If we can remove the handlers, the thieves have no-where to sell the stolen equipment and therefore no reason to steal it. Download it now !

Thames Valley Police are about to announce a new non emergency number to contact the PEC. It is going to be a very simple unified number across the entire UK. It will direct you to your appropriate police area, using your telephone prefix code. If you are using a mobile, it will locate you, using the nearest phone mast directing your call. It is not yet live in this area, but as soon as it is, I will put out full details. Until early next year – depending upon usage – both numbers will still be active.

Lots of plans have been put in place re Halloween. The Police will be using the direct mobile number once again and I will circulate full details shortly. Please see the attached press release from the Borough, regarding their Halloween activities.

CRIME:
BISHAM, COOKHAM, HURLEY, THE WALTHAMS, LITTLEWICK GREEN & KNOWL HILL:

15/10 Saturday 2 a.m. Coxborrow Close, Cookham Rise. Phone lines to house cut. The cables may have been mistaken for those connected to security lights. If you live in the area, can you be on your guard ? If you have visible lead, please take extra precautions to protect you and your neighbours. There are several metal marking products on the market, which are easy to apply – a quick search on the internet will come up with several, including non drying marking grease. I will shortly circulate more details. Our new Crime Reduction Officer (Caroline is no longer with us) Anne Chalmers, is putting together a useful toolkit for you, setting out different ways to protect co pper and lead. If you have seen anyone suspicious in the area – such as someone photographing houses – that should be an immediate call to the PEC.
