THERE WERE NO BURGLARIES IN WINDSOR AND MAIDENHEAD IN THE LAST 24 HOURS !

Thank you for the hundreds of requests for UV pens ! I and one of my volunteers, are sending them out as quickly as we can. Don’t forget – if you have asked for it to mark your mobile phones – YOU MUST PROPERTY MARK ALL YOUR VALUABLE ITEMS AS WELL – THAT INCLUDES COMPUTERS, TV’S, HI FI SYSTEMS, GARDEN / ELECTRICAL TOOLS, GAMES CONSOLES AND COMPUTER GAMES, DVDS, PORCELAIN FIGURES – IN FACT EVERYTHING.  It dries transparent and is virtually invisible on many surfaces when dry, but please mark items where they will not be handled or sprayed with aerosol polishes. As the marker pen does leave a shiny residue on some surfaces which catches the light, do not mark items on the front, if this will cause a problem. All recovered property in the police station is checked under UV light and the post code really shines up a very bright white – it really is very bright. If you haven’t already asked for one, but now think perhaps you do want one - or as one member has asked for 12 for his neighbours – no problem. The deal is – I send you a free UV marker pen (just email me on jeffrey.pick@thamesvalley.pnn.police.ukwhich would cost you at least a pound anywhere else – you agree to use it ! So many just sit in a drawer to do later. When you start, it only takes about 25 minutes to do a whole house ! Don’t procrastinate – do it now.

I have asked one of our NHW members, who is an IT security advisor and who has very generously offers his services to us as a volunteer, to prepare an advice sheet for us re laptop Tracker systems and any other Internet security issues about which we should be aware.  Paul generally goes into schools to advise young people, about the pitfalls and dangers of putting too much personal information on the various social networking sites.  I am very grateful to him for the time he spends supporting us, answering all sorts of questions sent in by yourselves.  Do you have a similar skill that would benefit our members ?  Would you be willing to act as a volunteer advisor / mentor ?  The range would be very wide – for example, many of our members would like to produce newsletters, but have no idea where to start.  One of our members in Bexley StreetWindsordoes a brilliant job, writing and producing very professional looking newsletters, can you offer to help someone develop those skills ?  Ascot are extremely lucky, their newsletters are designed, written and produced by a professional, who also donates his time and skills.  Just let me know on the above email !  Paul has just confirmed that he will come with me and be on hand to answer IT Security questions at the Borough's Crime Prevention morning to be held at the WRVS Centre, York Road, Maidenhead 11 p.m. / 1.30 p.m. Tuesday 8th November !

Can I also publicise a fly tipping alert from the Royal Borough ?
The Borough and the National Trust is currently suffering from a spate of illegal fly tipping of tyres. We are hoping that the eagle eyed readers of Community Messaging can help us identify the culprits. As you can imagine, the offenders tend to use low-loaders. We recently heard of a black and white transit low loader that was dumping tyres, while it was going along. Not only is this potentially dangerous to pedestrians, it is a major problem for drivers, who could come across large numbers of tyres in the middle of the road at night. We will liaise with Bucks, but it would be good if a message could also go out in Community Messaging.

Job done – please report anything like this to the PEC immediately on 0845 8 505 505. We are particularly interested in the index a full description of the van – does it have a markings / writing on the side and descriptions of the driver / passenger. To do this presumably someone will be in the back whilst the flatbed is being driven, which should draw your attention.
