Crime: 28 October 2011

Halloween – We are not issuing the mobile number this year. For the last 3 or 4 years, ASB has declined substantially over Halloween and it has not been needed. Halloween should be a fun evening. If you have children going out, please make sure they are accompanied by an appropriate adult – Treats are fine, but Tricks must be appropriate and fun as well. Egging a house is not appropriate and is considered to be criminal damage – a criminal offence. If your house is egged – phone us immediately on the 0845 8 505 505 number. So – If you see groups of youths starting to gather, or throwing fireworks in the streets, please phone us immediately. Let’s hope it passes off well again this year.

Another request for a volunteer. I work very closely with Sheila Holmes who Chairs the ‘Older Persons Advisory Forum’. If you came to the Golden Age event at the Racecourse a couple of months ago, you may have met her. She is finding her current logo, is too expensive to print ! Have you had any experience designing logos ? I have attached her brief. If you can assist, she and her group would be really grateful. They do not want to spend valuable and scarce resources on a logo, when that money could be much better spent on projects they manage !

Mobile phones are being stolen from cars and in burglaries across the Borough. If you know of someone that has become a victim, remind them to let us know if they have a ‘smart phone’ and get them to activate their Tracker App immediately they discover the loss. The Tracker App only works while / when the phone is turned on. They therefore need to activate the tracker before the thief realises this and removes the battery, or turns it off

CRIME:
BISHAM, COOKHAM, HURLEY, THE WALTHAMS, LITTLEWICK GREEN & KNOWL HILL:

25/10 – 26/10 Tuesday 7 p.m. / Wednesday 8.30 a.m. College Avenue. Car entered BY UNKNOWN MEANS – SAT NAV and 2 games consoles stolen.
26/10 Wednesday 10.23 p.m. Bridle Road. Burglary. The owner was asleep upstairs when the doorbell rang. They decided to ignore it but looked out and saw nothing. They then heard a bang downstairs and went to investigate. They saw torchlight. They shouted, the torch went out and the thief immediately made off. The police were called and attended immediately. The dog team were called and tracked the thief to Queensway where the track ended. There were tool marks on the rear kitchen door. WHAT WAS THE CORRECT PROCEDURE IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES ? When the doorbell rang, and the person was woken up, they should have let whoever it was know that the house was occupied. By doing nothing, the thief probably thought no-one was home. SO, turn a light on. If you then hear a noise or are really concerned that someone may have tried to break in, you immediately dial 999 and call the police. Then they can be on their way, while you listen to what is happening and can update the control room. You lock the bedroom door – put a chair under the handle, turn a radio on loud – so that they know you are there – you can also speak very loudly to the police ! I would also suggest you shout to someone else in the house – possibly non existent – that they should release the dogs ! – Whatever – you now know.
27/10 Thursday 1 a.m. – 7 a.m. Laggan Road. Burglary – entry via an INSECURE ground floor window. 2 phones and a camera stolen A J REG FIESTA, WAS SEEN ACTING SUSPICIOUSLY NEARBY ???? This is why it is vital that you report suspicious cars and people who are out and about. If someone had seen a white J reg Fiesta acting suspiciously, we would have immediately tied it to the theft of the Fiesta in Brunel Road ! Please remember the jigsaw !

THE MICROSOFT SCAM IS STILL WITH US !

Hello Jeff,
Been at home during the day this week and have had three calls from "windows" telling me there is a problem with my computer! Each time I said "not interested thank you " and rang off. they have just rung again and this time said "This is Adam speaking. We have received a report that there is a problem with your computer." I replied, "how did you receive a report?" and the line went dead. All the people calling this week have had Asian accents. I have been thinking that these might be some of the scams you mention. After your talk on Tuesday evening I thought I had better let you know.
Yours,
Pat
