Crime: 22 November 2011

First. We were alerted during the early hours of last night by Surrey Police that a suspicious car had just left their area and was driving through Ascot. We tried to locate it through the various back roads it was understood to be taking. The search stopped, when the police car came across 3 cocker spaniels, wandering in the road - in the middle of nowhere. It is believed they may have been dumped from the car they were following. They may of course have just got out from somewhere. Do you know of anyone who had, but is now missing 3 very nice cocker spaniels ? If so please call the PEC on the new 101 number.

Second a warning that is useful for us all !
Jeff,

I live in Windsor. Last night about 9pm I was watching TV, when I heard a sound at my front door. I muted the TV, thinking it was my husband coming home. I then heard the letterbox clink, so I got up to let him in. When I got to the front door, I saw a man wearing a hoodie move away from it. He must have then jumped over the front fence, as he didn't go through the front gate. I called the police who attended quickly. They think, he may have been trying to get the 2 sets of car keys that could be seen through the letterbox.
I have now removed everything from ‘sight’ of the front door.

Regards
Ruth

I think this is a timely reminder. It can happen to any of us, usually when we are off guard and certainly not expecting it. If we all take a few easy preventative steps, it won’t happen !
Re this particular issue – make sure nothing of value – particularly keys - are on view, if anyone peeps through your letterbox. Often at night, we leave hallway lights on. This is frequently a sidelight, which spotlights house / car keys on a hallway table – we couldn’t make it easier. A letterbox draught excluder – the brushes - prevents this, as does a very inexpensive internal letterbox guard.  Better still - do not leave them there !

Where did that man go ? Where had he come from ? It is vital you phone through any sightings of suspicious people / cars you see out and about. 101 please.

The Audi stolen yesterday as pinged the ANPR in Surrey - so we know where that is !
