Crime: 23 November 2011

Some GOOD NEWS – the 3 cocker Spaniels I reported yesterday have been repatriated – they had just inadvertently strayed from a nearby home. I have just come off the phone with the Kent Co-ordinator for Dog Watch. They have recently had 6 cocker spaniels stolen and she wondered if these may be 3 of them. She has some words of advice for us. The top 3 breeds being stolen at the moment are: Spaniels both Cocker and Springer, followed by Lurchers, then unusual but valuable mixed breed crosses. If you are selling puppies – generally it is young dogs they are after – think about showing the dogs first by photo and then ion a secure location. She does not advise you to give out an address where someone can attend and check your security, in order to steal the dog at a later time. We have not had a problem at this time, but other areas have had puppies stolen both to breed from and to sell to order.

As we get nearer to Christmas, our Trading Standards have been out there tracking down counterfeit alcohol and cigarettes. They have asked me to circulate a fact sheet which I have attached. You can also access it via the following link:

Hi Jeff
I’d recommend that hinges are inverted or capped, preventing even the heaviest of gates from being lifted and removed from their location.
Secure gates with good quality close shackle padlocks.
