Crime:
1 February 2012
Firstly
you will see a string of opportunist burglaries in Boyn Hill. These seem
to all be in the early hours, entry via the rear, small portable items
easily transferred into cash have been stolen – particularly handbags.
It is essential therefore that we locate any stolen, but discarded
handbags / sports bags, as they may contain forensic evidence, linking the
burglaries together and, to an offender. We also need everyone to be on
the alert and look out for suspicious people, cars and people on bikes,
out and about in the early hours. We have patrol vehicles out and about at
all times, ready to respond to your calls. IF
IN DOUBT – CALL 101.
We are also having problems with theft of spare wheels – that is the
wheel and the tyre being stolen from cars / vans where the spare is stored
under the car / van and is easily accessible. Thieves wrench the retaining
bracket from its fixing under the car, which releases the wheel. To have
this fixed and buy another wheel is a very expensive business ! Eyes and
ears please. If you have a car / van which has this – please pay
additional care re security for the time being. If you have a garage
filled with junk – empty it out and store your much more valuable car
there instead ???
Thirdly, I have received this message from IVD who write the
Ringmaster / Community Messaging software. Some members have been having
problems with messages, since they upgraded their system 10 days ago:
Hello Jeff,
Yes - it is good practice to suggest that recipients add your
‘Ringmaster broadcast email address to their address books. This
instructs their provider to ‘white list’ your messages
We have migrated your system to a new more efficient mail server
infrastructure. Some providers (AOL and Yahoo in particular) throttle and
distribute messages based on mail server reputation which takes time to
establish. Pre-migration test messages to our IVD AOL and Yahoo accounts
resulted in successful delivery to our primary inboxes and was not flagged
as spam

FROM THE BOROUGH:
Community
safety encourages residents to ‘love their community’
The Royal Borough’s community
safety partnership, is encouraging residents to support a variety of
activities during the borough’s second annual - Love Your Community Week
- which runs from Monday 13 February, to Friday 17 February.
Following the official launch by the Mayor, Cllr Asghar Majeed, at
Maidenhead Library on Monday 13 February at 10.30am, RBWM Community
Wardens, Police, members of Housing Associations and Residents’
Associations will be out and about in the Borough:
•carrying out a clean-up with the National
Trust (The Thicket)
•hosting Crime Reduction and Information stands (Old Windsor Day Centre,
Woodlands Park Community Centre and Tesco in Datchet)
•launching Ascot Youth Club’s Love Your Community Week - YouTube™
video.
Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member with responsibility for Community
Safety, said: “Community involvement is key to a safer community for all
and ‘Love Your Community Week’ enables us to work with our many
partners and embody the spirit of the Big Society.
“The week is not a one-off – we work
tirelessly throughout the year with our partners to deal robustly with
issues that matter to residents and ensure that incidents of crime and
anti-social behaviour reduce. The borough has a zero tolerance policy
towards litter and graffiti and our community wardens will fine anyone
committing anti-social behaviour including littering and dog fouling.
“I would urge anyone living in the borough to support their local event
to learn more about the work that community safety does. I will be coming
along to many of the events and look forward to seeing as many of you
there as possible.”
SCAMS:
We are still getting calls right across the area for the Microsoft
/ now Windows Scam:
Hi Jeff,
I`ve just had a phone call supposedly from Windows Helpline telling me my
computer is in great difficulties and he needs to help me. He gave me a
phone number, but I just put the phone down,
Norma
Well done Norma !
Hi jeff,
Once again, I have received a phone call from someone professing to be
from Microsoft, trying to gain information about my PC and passwords etc.
so I told him where to go yet again. I feel this is worth another warning
as I am obviously, not the only one he is contacting.
Arthur
The next one from Robert, has an ‘attachment’ which we have
been told, we must not open !
Hi Jeff, I have just received this and remembered I must not open any
suspicious attachments !
