Crime: 14 March 2012

Searching the police computers I see that 2 catalytic converters have been stolen in the last week in Datchet and Winkfield. They have simply been cut from the exhaust system under the car with bolt croppers causing even more damage. These can cost up to £1,000 to replace ! You do not want your stolen. Can we all look after each other ? The two were stolen overnight – so during the hours of darkness ! if you see anyone lying under a car - working, or a mechanic working under a car even with a van nearby, or the rear of a car jacked up on the highway, please phone it through to us on the 101 number so that we can check it out. You would want one of your neighbours to do it for you !

MEMBERS ADVICE:

Hi Jeff

I am, and have been for some time now, registered with TPS - Telephone Preference Service and, when I emailed them regarding the calls I was receiving last November, they wrote to me informing me:

'You may already be aware that TPS does not have the facilities to know which companies are calling you and therefore relies on the complainant to asctertain this information upon the receipt of an unsolicited direct marketing call.'

He goes on to say that even though they couldn't help in this particular instance - possibly due to it's origination by an overseas call centre - they 'have logged it and will include the details in their regular report' which they send to 'the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) who are the government body responsible for enforcing the Privacy and Electronic (EC Directive) Communications Regulations 2003.

'This will enable them to look at trends in complaints being made and where possible identify those organisations who are not complying with the regulations surrounding such calls. If you continue to receive unsolicited calls of a fraudulent nature please report to your local Trading Standards or the Police.'

This may well be the reason that you have been inundated!! I have been receiving further calls from three different numbers, which I got from my phone as it tells me the numbers who have called me and also by dialling 1471 to ascertain the time, and have reported them direct to the ICO via their very helpful website. Funny, but since then, I haven't received any more calls!!

Keep up the good work and many thanks for your time, and the excellent messages.

Very kind regards
Jo
