Crime: 20 March 2012

There was an attempted burglary in Maidenhead yesterday – see below.  3 men pulled up outside a house in a white transit. They took the integral garage door off it hinges and went inside. One slid under the car inside. The neighbours were having work done and the builders thought this was suspicious. He went and confronted the 3 men. They told him to mind his own business and go away ! They were that brazen. He said he knew the owners and they were not authorised, to be on the property. He stood his ground and made them leave. Nothing was taken. One point to note – all 3 were wearing yellow Hi Viz jackets. These jackets are not authorisation to go anywhere, neither is a clip board. We must all be really grateful to that builder who did exactly the right thing. Opportunist thieves get away with so much, because they appear confident and we do not want to appear rude. When questioned, they always have an answer – not always plausible, but we tend to back off, not wanting to be rude. Please protect your neighbours and your community, report anyone that appears to be out of place in your community to us – we will send a PCSO along to ask pertinent questions.

I also had an email from one of our members to say that a van had appeared outside an elderly neighbours house in Windsor and the men looked as if they were about to tarmac the drive – again exactly the right thing to do – leave it to us – but that neighbour needs to be protected.

17/3 – 18/3 Saturday / Sunday Charters Road. 4 rolls of lead stolen from a flat roof – did anyone see anything ? This is the point of mentioning the case above – how did the thieves know there was lead there ? They must have driven around and seen it. Whilst driving around, they must have been seen by someone – why don’t we know ? When they parked, climbed up onto the roof, pulled up the lead, dropped it down to waiting accomplices, did no-one hear anything – see anything ? We all need to up our observation skills to combat these people.
