Crime: 25 April 2012

Suspicious white vans / flatbeds driving around.  Our intelligence and Local CID teams, have been really impressed over the last year or so, by the number reported suspicious cars / vans we receive from you.  At yesterday’s morning management briefing, both our Intelligence teams and Insp. Pete Dalton , praised your work.  Apparently on Monday we receive 3 calls from you, each of which, was really valuable.  One index supplied by a NHW member, related to a van wanted by Kent police !  Please keep them coming, either to the 101 number, or on the new thamesvalleyalert intel line !

NEXT FROM A LOCAL CO-ORDINATOR:

Jeff

That was a valuable piece of information requiring photographing  valuable precious jewellery. It was something that came to light with us several years ago, when my wife thought she lost a piece of hers. We realised we had no proof, nor value, so it is something we now deal with every 5 years.

If we may add to this message - whilst photographs and descriptions are a start, we do suggest that people with valuable possessions, i.e. Jewellery, watches etc take them to have a valuation for insurance purposes carried out.  Everyone should of course have contents Insurance, which we all know, is essential.

The reason we suggest having valuations done regularly, is that the value of Gold & Precious metals & gems, has increased by approx 50% recently, with gold now reaching £24 per carat at today’s prices. Having a certified certificate, along with a police report in case of an incident, will see them recover the full value, if not the item.

We hope this helps

Best Wishes

Colin

Thanks you Colin – this is really helpful and we all appreciate the advice.

Oldfield&braynhpt@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

23/4 – 24/4  Monday noon / Tuesday 3 p.m.   Bray Hall, Hibbert Road .  Fencing pulled down and water butts thrown into a stream.  This has happened before over 16 / 18th April.

Pinkneysgreen&furzeplattnhpt@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

23/4 – 24/4  Monday 10 p.m. / Tuesday 7 a.m.   Courthouse Road.  Burglary – rear door LEFT INSECURE – IPOD, mobile, laptop, camera & camcorder stolen.  Access to the rear of the house, was via a neighbour’s garden 2 houses up, where footprints have been found and then over the garden fences.  Our ‘Opportunist Thieves’ are very fit and can easily ‘hop’ over a 6’ garden fence in one bound !  Garden fences between properties, now need to be protected with ‘rickety’ trellis (so that they cannot get a purchase or grip, to climb over), ideally covered in prickly plants such as roses.  ‘Prik a Strip’is available from security shops by the meter.  It is a length of spiky plastic, which will not cause permanent damage / harm to an intruder – but will deter them !
