Crime: 18 June 2012

Two things:

One of our members phoned the PEC because he had Nottingham Knockers in his road – Upper Village Road in Ascot .  The PEC were rather less than helpful, asking why he was reporting them to the police.  They were also unfamiliar with the term – Nottingham Knockers.  If this happens to you when reporting any suspicious incident to us – I need to know and I will be following this one up immediately.  If they don’t know what a Nottingham Knocker was – simply explain that they are the young ‘unemployed’ lads going door to door selling household products and the Police Area Commander in this area, as well as the NHW Administrator, have asked you to phone these through immediately and you are just doing as requested.  Any problems – email me immediately.  What I don’t want is for you to have a bad experience and think we don’t want you to phone – we do !

Secondly:

We had a phone call from a member of the public to say that they were watching a lad trying car door handles as he walked along – this is a 999 call.  The police responded immediately and he was arrested.  That is how it should work.  NHW is not only you in your road, amongst your Neighbours.  It’s you wherever you are.  If you see something you think we should know about – wherever you are – phone it through.  The 101 number works across the entire UK !  You can be the eyes and ears of the police force wherever you happen to be !  Imagine that resource, available to fight crime !

17/6  Sunday 0.10 a.m.   Queen Street.  A witness saw a lad walking along trying car door handles.  He phoned the police who attended immediately and a man was a arrested.  He was drunk and looking to take a car to get home.  Our grateful thanks to that member of the public, simply passing by.  Hopefully we would all do the same.  Not only would someone have lost their car which could have been damaged in the process, but a drunken driver could have killed or injured someone.  Many thanks.
