Crime: 10 August 2012

I went to a very interesting NHW meeting on Wednesday evening, in Monkey Island Lane , Bray – I do have to add that all my NHW meetings are interesting – there was a co-ordinator at the meeting, who worked in IT security, for a bank.  We were discussing scam emails.  He pointed out that most were in very poor English, for a purpose !  I thought it was just Google Translate – apparently not.  It is – an intentional IQ filter – he re-assured us !  They only want to catch those people, who are most easily fooled and unlikely to follow up any losses and will continue to send money, when asked.  I had never thought about it this way !!  Unless anyone out there knows better ???

Another interesting thing emerged.  They had recently had a Cannabis Factory in the road !  These can be anywhere.  It was a rented property and the entire inside had been ripped out – thousands upon thousands of pounds worth of damage – if you are in the business of renting out properties, be aware !  They had been given the old 0845 8 505 505 number to phone, if they needed the police.  Though that number is still live, it has been phased out as we all know and replaced with the National number – 101.  I have attached once again my NHW handout – when and how to call the police - you may find it useful.

I mentioned  Neighbourhood Updates at the meeting and everyone looked blank,  These are produced monthly for every Neighbourhood and lists meeting dates, as well as all the work being carried out by the Neighbourhood Team to address your 3 NAG Priorities.  They then asked where to find them ?  I reminded them that in every message I send, I have put the Police Neighbourhood Team Group Email Address under the heading, so that you can contact them directly.  Under that, is an http link to your Neighbourhood Page on TVP's website.  All the monthly updates will be found there – it could not be simpler.  They spend a lot of time producing them.  It seems such a waste – if no-one reads them !
