Crime: 13 August 2012

I have attached a new handout dealing with Cold Callers.  Please remember – no-one gets into your home unless you know them or they have made an appointment !

I also have an update about the plaque from outside the school, commemorating the loss of 4 students on a school trip which was thought by the public to have been stolen.  It has not been stolen.  It has been sent away for cleaning !

First a reminder for the Retirement Fair on Wednesday:

The Retirement Fair will be held this year between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on Wednesday 15th August in the Grandstand at Ascot Racecourse with admission free for visitors. This is the biggest event of its type in Berkshire with over 130 exhibitors.

This will be a great day out with demonstrations and displays. We have a fashion show, flower arranging, the chef showing how to cook healthy breakfasts, indoor bowls, dance and exercise throughout the day.

Those needing support and advice will be able to talk to the experts. Exhibitors who can offer help for Computer problems, Finance, Tax, Legal, Insurance, Home Security, Health or Individual Care and Support Needs will be on hand.

Retirement can be a moment when some may wish to strike out in a new direction. If that is on holiday then advice will be available, if visitors wish to join a local society or volunteer their time, then they will be welcome by many exhibitors throughout the Grandstand.

There will be something for everyone so why not join us?

If you need more details visit our web site at http://www.ascotretirementfair.com/

Next a warning about a servicing scam:

Hi Jeff
I've just received a call from someone claiming to be UK Vac (or Vacuum) Services "...about my Dyson Cleaner".  As I don't own a  Dyson, the call was short lived.  However, my suspicion was aroused as to how they had associated my name with Dyson ownership.  A quick trawl of the web, revealed a scam reported by BBC Watchdog last year .

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2011/05/tom_scoffin.html

This company may be trawling local phone directories, in an attempt to offer unwarranted services at an expensive rate.  You may like to warn your members and local trading standards.

Martin
