Crime: 17 August 2012

No burglaries or cars broken into in the 24 hours !!!

Some of you may have had a virus warning on yesterday’s Alert message.  I believe this was because I had copied in some of the scam emails in full, as well as their full email addresses and these were recognised by your spam filters.  In future I will not include them.

We received 2 calls last night from our members about a car driving around Maidenhead and its rural areas suspiciously, at about 2 a.m.  We immediately carried out area searched but could not locate it.  We do have a partial index from one call – our grateful thanks – and we are checking ANPR across Maidenhead.  We want those calls please.  Yet another example of someone – not calling the police yesterday from Eton :

15/8 – 16/8  Wednesday 5 p.m. / Thursday 3.30 p.m.  Meadow Lane.  Police officers on patrol, found a car with a smashed window and damage to the driver’s door lock.  Nothing appeared to have been stolen.  They then carried out House to House enquiries at the buildings nearby.  One resident had been woken at 2.20 a.m. by the sound of someone walking around outside.  There was also the sound of scraping metal.  They looked out and saw a man hiding in the garage area.  He is described as white, 5’8’’, stocky build wearing a red and white chequered long sleeved shirt and blue jeans.  The man then threw something at the car window smashing it.  The man was then seen to run off in the direction of Eton Court .  About 5 minutes later the witness saw another man standing close to the garages.  He was white, wearing a dark grey hoody with the hood up.  He had sharp features and was wearing jeans and white trainers.  He realised he had been seen and immediately made off, towards Brocas Street .  All this took place at 2 .a.m. but was not reported to us.  It was only revealed during police ‘House to House Enquiries’ !  The witness is obviously not on Thames Valley Alert !  I hope every single one of us, would have reported both incidents immediately, while they were happening.  That way, the police could have put on containment and carried out an area search for the men as the descriptions were excellent.  Please spread this message to everyone you know – we want you to call these things through to us – The first incident was at least criminal damage and therefore a crime in progress, for a 999 call.  Eyes and ears please – to protect yourselves and your neighbours !!!

MEMBERS ADVICE:

I have received the following message from the Nottingham Alert system.  It contains some really good advice re kids cycling on the roads.  The website they recommend, contains some road safety games – I would suggest you play them first !!!

“Young people have so much going on in their exciting lives, they forget about safety and the consequences of their actions; or indeed lack of action.  Riding a bike is indeed fun, however, we must get the message out there that young riders need to have the basics of road safety planted firmly in their minds.  For example wearing helmets, having lights (legal requirement at night!) and not listening to MP3 stereo players whilst riding.

Many incidents are not due to the negligence of drivers or bad driving, for example speeding, but down to the young persons lack of knowledge in road safety.

This message needs to be consistently reaffirmed through schools, clubs and at home, as often as possible.  There is so much more that can and will be done, so please support this, visit the website Tales of the Road (details below) and get your children and grand children educated in being safe, whilst having their fun! “

We all remember learning the “Green Cross Code” in our younger days. As this no longer appears within the School Curriculum in many schools, we are asking all parents and grandparents, to take a look at the “Tales of the Road” web site http://talesoftheroad.direct.gov.uk/ , which is an interactive site helping to teach our young children all about the Green Cross Code. There are some super games on the site for the children to play (and adults too).
