11/9  Tuesday 7 p.m. / 9.45 p.m.   Car park, Bray Road .  Car rear windscreen smashed and laptop and bag stolen from the boot.  The owner did not know how they knew, a laptop was in the boot.  There are no devices a thief can run across your car, to see if there is a laptop inside – by measuring electrical flow.  Any such device, would also pick up every bit of wiring, connected to the car’s battery !  The most general observation is – they go for a type of car – a company fleet car - usually issued to various management levels – who are also likely, to have been issued with a work laptop.  If they are parked near a country pub – Bray Village centre ??? – the likelihood is the person has it in the boot !  It costs the thief nothing, to break a window to see !

7/9 – 10/9  Friday midnight / Monday noon .  Brunel Close.  Line of black paint sprayed along a car.

Many of you have been in NHW for many years and will remember the work we all did for the ‘Safe as Houses’ Initiative, funded by the Home Office 3 or 4 years ago.  Many of you will have joined us after that took place.  As part of our bid, we produced short videos of various security devices, we felt would be really useful to our members to combat crime and placed them on YouTube.  Under the initiative, we made these available free of charge – but those days are long gone, in the current economic climate.  We feel those items are still really useful and I am therefore promoting the short videos for you to view.  The PCSO explaining how each piece of equipment is used, is our own PCSO Dave Bullock, from the Inner Windsor Neighbourhood Team.  There are also two short ‘Intro clips’ which have brief details of all the items described.  These, feature Chief Supt. Tim De Meyer our Area Commander at the time, who is now responsible for Neighbourhood Policing across the entire Thames Valley at HQ.  All the security equipment for the bid was supplied by SOLON who run a retail arm – Redline Security on 01352 762266 or online at www.redlinesecurity.co.uk to see the stock.  You can purchase at sales@solonsecurity.co.uk

NEXT FROM THE BOROUGH:

Get snapping and ‘capture your community’!

The Royal Borough’s community safety partnership is launching its second annual photography competition, on Monday 17 September at 4pm at East Berkshire College, Windsor.

The competition – calledCapture your Community’ – invites residents, to submit photos of what their area means to them, to further enhance ‘Community Pride’.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member with responsibility for Community Safety, said: “We’re looking for photos that capture what you like about your community. That could be where you live, work, go to school or worship – the choice is yours”.

“The standard of last year’s entries was extremely high, making the judges’ decision very hard and I am sure it will be the same, this year”.

With such a great summer, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, I am sure we’ll have more entries than last year.  We added the Olympics, as a ‘one-off’ additional category this year.  I am sure many residents, will have captured the spirit of the Games with their lens and we would love to see their pictures”.

“I am delighted East Berkshire College is hosting our launch – it seemed very appropriate, as the college has an A-level photography course and we hope it will encourage more entries, from young people.”

Photographers of all ages and expertise,

are invited to enter, in three categories:

·       under-18s – the winner will receive a studio experience at Rob Percy Photography, Henley-on-Thames. The runner-up will receive a 90-minute studio tutorial at Simon Earle Photography, Bray

·       adults – the winner will receive a framed A3 print of their photo and a £50 studio gift voucher, to be used at Snappy Studio, Windsor. The runner-up, will receive a framed A4 print of their photo and a £25 studio gift voucher, to be used at Snappy Studio, Windsor

·       the Olympics – the winner will receive a voucher for a free sitting and free 8x6 print, from PixelArti, Maidenhead. The runner-up, will receive one year’s membership to Maidenhead Camera Club.

Brian McCormack, of Snappy Snaps, Windsor, said:” Snappy Snaps Windsor, is delighted to be able to offer one of the prizes for this community-based photography event. The inclusion of the Olympic category, is particularly poignant, following on from the buzz created by London 2012. The camaraderie generated from it, is exactly what community spirit is all about.  Being a business at the heart of Windsor , we hope this spirit continues to bring people together, long into the future. Good luck everyone.”

To qualify, photographs must be taken in the Royal Borough (with the exception of the Olympics where photos of the Games at Eton Dorney will be accepted). For further information call 01628 796126 or email communitysafety@rbwm.gov.uk

Only digital photographs up to 10Mb, can be accepted.

Entry forms and terms and conditions are available for downloading from the community safety website http://www.rbwmsafety4all.org.uk/photocomp.htm. Photographs should be emailed to communitysafety@rbwm.gov.uk. The closing date is Friday 16 November, with the award ceremony on Wednesday 5 December, in the Mayor’s Parlour.
