MEMBERS COMMENTS:
First something everyone needs to be aware of:

Good afternoon Jeff

As I care for the elderly, I feel I should let you know that one of our older residents was ‘scammed’ (if that is the correct word) on the 5th September at the large Sainsbury's almost opposite the Bishop Centre.

A young man came up to him as he was loading the groceries into his car and told him he had dropped a £10 note. Even though he paid by card at the till he took out his wallet and without seeing anything the young man had relieved him of his American Express card and within 20 minutes £1700 had been taken from his bank account. Luckily he realised what had happened very quickly and the Security at Sainsbury's dealt with it. He is in the process of having this money returned to his account through the American Express but this is should be a warning for others.

All the best
Betty

NEXT – THE FOUR LEGGED FRUIT THIEVES ! We are looking at this as a humorous story, but initially, elderly residents were very concerned that someone had been into their gardens, to steal the fruit. To do that, they would have needed ladders to get into the trees which raised their fear even further. I hope we have removed any concern they may have had ?

Hi Jeff,

Love the squirrel story! For info, I have a pear tree in my garden and over the last two weeks have watched squirrels transport whole pears away from the tree back to a hoard in their dray.  No mess and no dropped pears.  Suggest the criminal in your case could indeed have been four legged and furry !!

Jeff

I found that the plums had been picked from a tree in my garden and no trace of debris. I think though that the squirrel theory may have some merit, as squirrels can gather nuts in their paws so why not small fruit like apples and plums?

Regards

A Cookham Rise resident

Hi Jeff,

I was surprised to read of the theft of pears from trees belonging to the Cookham Dean resident.  Similarly, following a recent trip abroad at the end of August, my two apple trees were missing all apples with no sign of leaves & fruit on the ground or broken branches.  Despite poor growing conditions this year, we had a decent crop and there was not one left on either tree, not even on high branches.  Again, in order to have picked them, a ladder would be required.

There was no sign of damage to property and nothing else missing.  Very strange.

Best regards,
Tim.

Our four legged friends must be making a fortune in a market somewhere ???

This may or may not be true and I am checking it out;
Hi,
I have just seen reports of an issue possibly taking place in supermarkets – are they true ? After going through the checkout, a customer noticed that there was a charge on his receipt for cash-back, which he hadn't received, nor asked for. When challenged, the cashier said she would remove it, but would have to rescan the whole purchase. Apparently, some cashiers are adding a cash-back to certain customers’ receipts and passing the cash to an accomplice, who is the next person in the queue. By the time you have left the shop it's too late.

We're always told to check our receipts, but how often do we?

Regards

Nick

We have checked with our local Supermarkets who say you should have to sign all receipts for cash-back.

I have been sent the attached letter asking for help to bring in £75 million from South Africa – Please make sure any elderly / vulnerable person you know, never responds !!!
Hi Jeff,

Thought this was a particularly entertaining email for your members to be made aware of...

Thanks,

Rob

FINALLY, A PCSO FROM INNER WINDSOR HAS JUST BEEN TO SEE ME. Apparently all the churches in the area have been warned about a conman who is approaching members of the congregation. He does his research, so that he knows the name of the presiding vicar / priest when he talks to them. His story, is that a parent has died on Jersey and he is required to identify the body, but he has no money to get there. Several members have given him money. As I say, churches have been briefed and given out warnings, but he is very good and several people have handed over money. If you have been approached can you please let us known on the 101 number.

The Neighbourhood Officer who covers Wraysbury has also been in this morning. He has asked me to circulate something as well. A house in Wraysbury has found certain markings scratched into the pavement outside his house. These are familiar to us. They mean that the house is protected by alarm and the owner has a dog ! have you found any strange markings outside your house, on the pavement or external garden wall ? If so, can you email your Neighbourhood Team, on the email above.
