Crime: 29 October 2012
Wednesday
night is Halloween ! I have attached a poster, designed by the NHW
Scheme in Bexley Street, Windsor many years ago to say ‘Trick or
Treaters’ are very welcome, rather than the don’t call version,
together with an advice sheet.
I
also have this from Tiny Welford your town centre Sergeant:
In the run
up to Halloween and bonfire night, as always, all the Maidenhead
Neighbourhood Teams will be on dedicated, anti-social behaviour
operations. We will be patrolling well known hot spots and areas
associated with anti-social behaviour. RBWM Community Wardens
will be working alongside the police.
If
you see any groups of youths gathering, drinking or acting in an
unacceptable manner, throughout this busy period, please call the 101
number immediately and notify police.
Sgt Tiny
Welford
maidenhead
Central neighbourhood Sergeant.

MEMBERS’
COMMENTS.
Hi Jeff,
I have
received a lot of the 'Microsoft' calls and I would like to suggest an
alternative strategy, for handling these.
I use these calls to have enormous fun, giving these chaps the run-around. What I do, is I pretend to be a bit naive and stupid and I play along with them, but get everything slightly wrong.
I have
managed to string them out for over 20 minutes (my record so far), by
'misunderstanding' what they tell me to do (though of course, I am not
doing it !). When I am asked to 'press enter', I pretend that I
have actually typed the letters E.N.T.E.R. and so on.
Trust me
this is huge fun, as they get more and more frustrated. Eventually,
you can put them out of their misery by telling them that they have been
had, or wait for them to give up, usually in a flurry of profanity.
The beauty of this technique is, that while they are busy trying to con you, they are not trying to con someone else ! Anyone can play this game, as you don't even need a PC. In fact even if you have a PC, you don't go anywhere near it. Just pretend. Why not start a competition, to see who can string them along for the longest ? Perhaps if more people did this they would get the message and stop. Regards, Chris
WELL
! Chris has thrown down the gauntlet at 20 minutes !!! Unless
you can do better ???
Jeff – We
are being bombarded with calls from a recorded source (at least 10 calls
in the last 3 days), claiming to be Barclaycard Security (they may
be??????) asking for account details etc. They are directed to my wife
– I do not have an account with Barclays – and they appear to have
both my wife’s landline and mobile numbers. Banks do not
normally phone up – they write letters – and if they do phone, they
give a verifiable phone-back number. I think this is another scam,
to get bank details. Anyone else getting these calls? Suggest they
ignore them.
