Crime: 16 November 2012
We have had
a series of burglaries in Windsor & Maidenhead through forced rear
patio doors where the glass is smashed. I have been chatting with Anne
Chalmers our Crime Reduction Officer about the advice we
should circulate. We came up with the following:
Patio doors
and windows are generally made from toughened glass, which is the same
as car windscreens. When they are smashed, it makes no noise and
the whole window / panel / shatters and falls to the ground, or is easy
to push out. If you are burgled through any window, can I please
ask you to negotiate with your Insurance Company, to replace it with laminate
glass, rather than just replacing it with the same toughened
/ ordinary glass. Laminate glass is formed from 2 sheets of glass,
with a plastic layer heat glued in between. If someone comes back
and tries to break in a second time, it cannot be smashed. It
really makes sense and will protect you and your family, if you are
considering replacing any ground floor windows, please think about
laminate.

– we do not buy goods and services at the door, handing over cheque

circumstance, ‘Repair with Care’ can always assist with Trustworthy
