Crime: 18 January 2013
We
have had a series of shed and dwelling burglaries in Maidenhead last
night. I have attached the
shed security handout again at the bottom of this message, listing
recommended products – wireless shed alarms with a motion sensor and
‘padlock alarms’ – which are brilliant !
You can use these anywhere, on bikes, tools – you name it.
If I had a valuable bike, I would use it on a chain wherever I left
it, rather than a D or combination lock.
Details are on the handout. We
had an excellent NHW meeting last night in Old Windsor with our Crime
Reduction Advisor Anne Chalmers – as always, it was a fun, as well
as a learning evening. Anne
was talking about how to carry out a ‘Home Security Survey’, starting
at the perimeter and thinking like an opportunist thief.
It was fascinating and I learnt a lot.
She came along with a brand new product – a door chain for UPVC
doors ! The first on the
market made for UPVC doors. It
doesn’t attach to the door itself, but to the wall beside the door.
It has a really strong metal loop on a heavy chain, which slips
over the handle – so simple, but really effective.
It is called a ‘Secure-Ring’.
The
‘Secure Ring’ is manufactured by a company called ‘Security Doors
and Chains’ and can be purchased on line by going to this link. http://securitydoorchains.co.uk/
- The website has a good demonstration video ! Finally,
there was an article recently in the paper from Devon and Cornwall Police
about traveler / burglar markings left outside houses, or on pavements.
You may find it interesting, so it is also attached.
If you do see strange markings like these appearing anywhere,
please phone it through immediately to the PEC on the non emergency, 101
number. We did have a series
of calls last year, when strange yellow markings appeared along a pavement
– Thames Water had been around !!! CRIME: BISHAM,
