Two bikes were stolen in Windsor in the last 48 hours – this was my advice !

31/1 – 1/2  Clarence Road.  Shed break by forcing the door.  2 expensive mountain bikes stolen.  Thieves will target expensive bikes, as the cash return for them, is so much better, than for just any old bike.  If you have an expensive bike please, consider the PIR Shed alarm and alarmed padlock on the attached sheet, as well as a Bike Tracker. I mentioned these in my last message –

There are several products available, all now reasonably priced if you have a lovely bike – including, a tracker hidden in a rear light !!!!

Two Burglaries also worth mentioning because the of the advice:

31/1  Wednesday  7.30 a.m. / 6.15 p.m.  Southlea Road, Datchet.  Burglary.  Brick thrown through rear garden doors and glazing bars pushed apart to allow entry.  Thorough search.  Laptops X 3, jewellery and luggage stolen to take the property away.  The thief found the key to the back door and used it to open the door to enable him to leave with the bag.  Keys must not be left in doors or where it would take a thief, less than 5 minutes to find them.  If a thief can open doors to leave it reduces the chances of them leaving forensic evidence as they climb back out over broken glass – and of course they can carry so much more out of the property !!!!

30/1  Wednesday 2 p.m. / 5 p.m.  London Road, Datchet.  Burglary.  The owner returned and found someone had put the door chain on from inside and he was unable to get in.  He tried to force it unsuccessfully and went to a neighbour, to get a tool to cut it off.  As he walked away he saw the side hallway window open.  He climbed in and found the house had been searched.  He then found the internal garage door was open and believes he disturbed the offender by rattling the door chain and they made off via the garage. A single piece of jewellery stolen.  This is classic.  An Opportunist Thief will only be in your home for a maximum of 5 minutes.  Once a thief has got in and worked out an exit strategy in case you return, they will put on the door chain.  If you return you will rattle it and be confused as to how it could be on ?  That gives them the few seconds they need to leave !

MEMBERS COMMENTS:

First something that would be really annoying.  Is this happening generally – and - does anyone out there have any solutions ???

Hi Jeff
Over the past 5 days I have received 7 phone calls from International areas, at all times during the night.  The latest one was 3am (it is really worrying when this happens at that time).  As International calls cannot be traced, this is getting to be a real pain.

We also had the "so called " computer company calls again.  One said they needed to access to our computer as someone has downloaded inappropriate items (porn) !  Could we supply the company with our LOG IN and PASSWORD details !

I asked how they knew if I had a computer ? Their reply - "Everyone has one."

When I asked another question, the possibly Eastern European lady from her accent, got very irate and abusive.  The phone went down very quickly.  Five minutes later, the same lady called again and this time was very abusive and even threatening.

How can I stop these calls in the middle of the night ?

Nick
