Crime: 11 February 2013
MOST
IMPORTANTLY – THERE WERE NO BURGLARY DWELLINGS ACROSS THE ENTIRE RBWM
OVER THE WEEKEND !!! NOR ANY
CARS BROKEN INTO FIRST
! We have had a bad case of a
‘dodgy builder’ in College Road.
They called at the door, climbed up onto the roof, broke some tiles
and then asked for £7,000 ! to repair it
The very elderly homeowner who didn’t want the work done was
taken to his building society to remove the cash.
Fortunately, the teller questioned the amount and we were called.
If we discover a Dodgy Builder – and we rarely do until it is too
late, they usually have several jobs on the go.
Elderly people are always vulnerable targets for this.
They cannot get up on a roof to check that tiles are missing /
cracked. They believe the man
at the door and are grateful to them !
The first thing they usually say, is how helpful and nice they have
been. There is though a
follow up ! Usually exactly
one year later, they call again – at the end of the guarantee, to make
sure all is in order !!! You
guessed it – it never is and more work needs to be done.
Please keep an eye on any elderly / vulnerable neighbours that you
may have. If you see any
builders vans outside their houses / skips appearing on their driveways,
please email the Neighbourhood Team on their Group Email Address below and
let them know. They will
‘happen’ to walk past and make discrete enquiries and make sure
everything is above board, particularly if it is an unmarked white transit
van, or there are only mobile numbers on the side !!! If
anyone of pensionable age needs any work done, advise them to make contact
with Louise Tyson at Repair with Care.
I have attached her leaflets once again outlining the service they
offer – a service you can trust ! All
the builders / contractors have been checked and vetted ! Repair
with Care: Repairwithcare@housingsolutions.co.uk We
have had a fireman’s uniform stolen in RBWM.
If a fully uniformed fireman arrives on your doorstep in suspicious
circumstances, phone it through to the PEC immediately on the 101 number. We
have also had two valuable bikes stolen from Springfield Park in
Maidenhead. As they are
distinctive, I have attached photos – in case you see them about.
If you have a valuable bike, many bikes are now worth well in
excess of £2,000 / £3,000 please consider fitting a Tracker system.
These can cost less than £100.
Please go to www.integratedtrackers.com
and look at the SPYBIKE. There
are also Trackers which are integrated into a rear light !
Modern technology is a wonderful thing and we should all embrace it
and make the most use of it !!! MAIDENHEAD

smash the glass panels in the door, enter and carry out an untidy search
taking a considerable amount of jewellery.
They made off towards the Moor where two cars had been parked up
and waiting. They were seen
by a witness. Did anyone see
anything ? They were hanging
around for some time. Where
were they between 11.10 p.m. and 1.10 a.m. ?

SCAM! Dear
Jeff I
have forwarded Hilary's email to Paul Hay our volunteer NHW Computer Guru.
This is not just an innocent offer of help.
Afterwards, they have a back door into your hard drive which they
can access at any time for the life of your computer !!! They
can go in at any time and rifle through your files looking for details of
online bank / building society accounts, passwords etc.
You must not let this happen. LAPTOPS
AND
OTHER ITEMS STOLEN FROM THE
BOOTS OF CARS: Jeff
It
is amazing how many cars have valuables stolen from the boot – I am not
surprised – the number of times I see a car arrive in a car park, the
occupant gets out and puts a computer etc. into the boot – in full view
of any thief watching – and then they lock up and off they go. The
thieves know exactly which car to target If
you have to leave the laptop in the car then it seems obvious to me to put
it in the boot as you set off, or at least before you get to the car park,
then you simply arrive lock the car and go – no one knows what is in the
boot. Am
I stating the obvious ??? Kevin Unfortunately
not ! I have been banging on
about this for years. A thief
only has to sit in their car in a pub restaurant car park and wait.
Someone will come in, get out of their car, pick up all their
valuables, coats, briefcases, laptop bags etc, from the passenger seat,
walk around the car and place them in the boot – in full view of
everyone in the car park. Please
– as Kevin suggests, put everything in the boot, at the start of your
journey ???? CALL
BLOCKER PHONES: Hi
Jeff Love
Money have done quite a good blog on the new call blocker phone which may
be of interest.. Regards Liz SETTING
UTILITY COMPANY PASSWORDS: Hi
Jeff, Further
to my previous email – I have been in touch with my electricity
provider. Apparently,
they have to read meters at least once a year by law. I
have checked with them and mine actually gets read once a quarter. I
have set up a password with them – it was so simple to do - so next time
the meter reader comes let’s see if it works. Duncan You
have heard it here ! there is
no reason for anyone to put this off !
They want you to do this !!!! |
