Crime: 22 February 2013

Garage breaks are on the increase – it is that time of year !

We have organised ‘target hardening’ in Datchet and Wraysbury and Maidenhead.  Garage blocks in particular, have been targeted.  If you have a garage in one of these – please be particularly aware at this time and keep an eye out for any suspicious activity and report it to us immediately.  The PCSOs are out there carrying out both Hi Viz and under cover patrols.  I have attached the relevant crime prevention material once again.

Next a timely reminder to me !!!

Hello again Jeff,

A couple of points: Firstly, regarding parking on pavements, s34(A) Road Traffic ACT 1988 (Driving elsewhere than on a road) is often useful.

Secondly, it may help to get your message across if you reduced the number of acronyms used.  Many won't instantly know what 'ASB' is. How many know what LPA stands for?  I had to look it up.  Most should know what NHW means, but not all will - especially if they are new subscribers.  Why not provide a link to a glossary of frequently used abbreviations and acronyms which should include jargon used.

Just an idea.

Regards

Mike

I am sorry, but working in a police station there is another language.  Everything is talked about in acronyms and I do slip into bad habits !

When we had Ringmaster, I did have additional web pages in which I could place a glossary.  Now we have transferred to Thames Valley Alert, I do not have that facility.  I will just have to me more aware of the problem.  Just let me know if I use too many.  I do try to introduce police jargon to you, so that if you ever have to phone the PEC, you come across as ‘inside the extended police family’ and therefore get a faster and easier response.

MEMBERS COMMENTS:

A timely reminder from Derek about parking restrictions !

Hi Jeff

Thanks for publishing the interesting information from Tony Carr about parking on the pavement.

I think it would be worth pointing out an additional restriction, which many people appear not to be aware of.

The highway is not just the carriageway, it is also the pavement and verges on either side up to the boundary hedges or fences.

Any parking restrictions which apply to the road, also apply to the rest of the highway, so if there are yellow lines on the road, it is an offence to park on the footway or verges.

Kind regards

Derek

NUISANCE PHONE CALLS:

Hi Jeff,

I just wanted to offer a small price of advice regarding nuisance phone calls.

If you receive a call to from a number you do not recognise, then quite often, you can put this number into Google and it will tell you what the name of the company is, or indeed if it is a sales call, or even worse a nuisance call.

There are normally several threads relating to the number if it is a sales or nuisance call. If you do not want to receive calls from this number in future, then several mobile phones will allow you to add the number to a reject list.

This is certainly possible on many phones ( mine included). If you don't know how to do it then just query it for your make and model of phone on Google.  When that number calls you again it will automatically be rejected without disturbing you.

Hope it helps.

Andrew

Many thanks Derek
