Hi Jeff

Property Marking

Just to let you know that I went to loads of houses throughout the day on the Saturday and again on the Sunday, to carry out property marking of garden tools, as well as anything else people wanted marking. I took the opportunity to carry out Home security Surveys at the same time.  I still several appointments to attend as people are away.

It would take about an hour in each property.  I showed them how to mark up their property inside, as well as outside.

I showed them how to mark / engrave their garden tools, sit on mowers etc. with their postcode/house number / or name on several different places per item. We also painted various designs on each item, to make them immediately identifiable and individual, to each house hold.  I also confirmed and chatted about what we are doing locally, which includes late night patrols in their area to combat the current round of shed breaks.

I wondered if we could drop a letter to the Neighbourhood Watch Co–ordinator, as she has helped me tremendously.  She arranged all the appointments and offered her home as a base for me each day.

Can you also publicise it in a TVP Alert message, to show the efforts we have taken to help the local residents and community    I also hope it encourages other areas to do the same thing which will make it easier to deter to our local thieves.

Kind regards

PCSO Liz Davidson

CAR CRIME – POPPED / PUNCHED LOCK.  When I report a car door lock has been popped / punched – this is what I mean and a photo is attached !

Hi Jeff.

On Thursday, I approached my car from the passenger side, to place my computer bag on the front passenger seat.

As I reached to open the door, I noticed there was a hole, right under my door handle.  My first thought was, "someone has shot my car door!"  I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer.  Then the 'light' slowly began to dawn on me.  I phoned a friend who owns a car body shop and asked if he had any vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.  "Yes”, he replied I see it all the time.
Thieves have a punch and place it right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach through with a long tool and unlock the car, just as if they have a key.
No alarms, broken glass or anything".

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to him.  I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings.

He said.  "They want the break-in to be subtle, so that you don't even realize it has happened.  They may look at your GPS / Sat Nav, if you have left it in the car, to see where 'home' is.  They already know the car you drive.  They can, if they have the brains to do it, go to your ‘home’ and if your vehicle isn't there, possibly break in”.

He said they even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.  ‘If’ you have left a wallet / purse in the car, they will only take one or two credit cards. By the time you realize there has been a theft, they may have already had a couple days, or more, to use them.

His advice !  If you are in a shopping centre or other parking area, periodically check your car -.  Report thefts immediately....your bank with missing cheque numbers, your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

His final advice - if you should happen to leave your Sat Nav in the car by mistake, make sure you have set ‘Home’ to a street nearby !!

Robert

Thanks Robert – even more reason to leave nothing in your car !!!
