Crime: 11 March 2013
First.
If I have been slow in responding to emails, I apologise.
I am currently checking through all those people on the database
with ‘Communication Issues’. Those
are people who have been ‘auto suspended’ because the Alert system has
received a message back from a recipient’s computer, in the form of an
incorrect email address bounce-back.....their ‘Inbox was
full’......their ‘Out of Office’ was on...in fact any communication
back from your computer, to the Alert system.
There are also those new members, (as well as existing members, who
change their email address) who fail to ‘Verify’ their email address.
Every time I insert an email address, or update an email address,
the Alert system automatically generates a ‘Verification Email’, to
show that the email address is in fact correct and live.
Members must respond and ‘Verify’, within 14 days of insertion
or change, or they are auto suspended !
We currently have 1,500 members suspended in RBWM out of our 11,000
registered recipients. There
were 2,500 ! We emailed every
single one. 1,000 responded
and were re-activated. We are
now writing to each of the remaining 1,400.
The response has been brilliant and we are re-activating them as
quickly as we can. I have a
team of three volunteers working on this with me and I am sure we all
thank Tom, Jenny and Brenda for their hard work in making this happen. As
you know, I generally send messages on Monday / Wednesday and Friday.
I can send additional messages if there is a need.
If you go a week without a message (if I am not away climbing
volcanoes), email me to make sure you have not been suspended without your
knowledge ! We
are possibly two thirds of the way through ! Secondly
– I am having problems printing out my copy of Alert messages, as the
Right hand margin is now off the page and I lose all that text down that
side. I have had emails to
say the same is happening for you as well.
I have raised this with VisaV, who manage the Alert system, to see
if they have made any changes in the last 2 weeks.

COMMENTS: Hi
Jeff, I
received a phone call this morning asking if we had received the free
local paper 'The Observer'. When
I said no he said he would make a note of it and knew our address.
I was writing a letter on my computer at the time and was rather
engrossed. When I had
finished the letter, I thought this was rather odd, as we have not had
these papers for a while. Out
of interest, I dialled 1471 and picked up the number 02071831675 then I
dialled 141, so my number would not be traceable and then tried the
number. The phone went into answer-phone and I rang off. Thinking
about it later, I Googled the number and discovered, it is a 'dodgy' one
and several people have received the same call.
According to the website, this number beginning 020 gives the
impression the call is from London. By
the way, the person who spoke to me, did not have an obvious foreign
accent, so my suspicions were not alerted as they usually are in such
circumstances. Our
phone number is not in the phone book and we belong to the Telephone
Preference Service, so I have no idea how they got our number and knew our
address. Any
ideas on how or why they would do this? Regards Anne I
don’t. Has anyone out there
had similar calls ?
