19/3  Tuesday  2.30 p.m. / 2.45 p.m.  Altwood Road.  Attempted Burglary.  The owner heard a noise at her kitchen door and went to investigate.  As they approached they heard the sound of their side gate closing, but saw no-one.  Jemmy marks were found on the door.

18/3  Monday  noon.  Haddon Road.  A neighbour saw a man loading black bags from outside a house into a van.  They challenged the man but he apparently could not speak English.  The bags may have come from a skip.  Whatever the case – please be careful what goes into black bags and rubbish.  If you throw bills and any paperwork that could identify you or your circumstances away – it must be torn into small pieces.  You only need 2 utility bills to open a bank account in the name on the paperwork – that is how identities are stolen !!!

18/3 – 19/3  Monday 11.30 p.m. / Tuesday 8.45 a.m.  Palmers Green, Cox Green.  Someone has levered off the handle on a front door, possibly in an attempt to break in.

18/3  Monday 0.50 a.m. / 12.30 p.m.  St. Adrian’s Close, Cox Green.  The owner left their bike behind a gate at a property.  When they returned it was gone.

17/3 – 18/3  Sunday 8 p.m. / Monday 8 a.m.  Powis Close, Cox Green.  Someone has thrown wood glue over a fence, covering a car causing extensive damage to the paintwork.

Latest campaign to rid Borough’s Parks and Open Spaces of dog mess

Errant dog owners who fail to clear up after their dog are being warned ‘enough is enough’ as the Royal Borough’s Community Safety Partnership starts its latest campaign to rid the borough of dog mess on Tuesday 2 April at Home Park, Windsor.

To coincide with the clocks going forward at the end of March, heralding lighter mornings and evenings, community wardens will increasingly start to work in known ‘hot spots’, carrying out early morning and evening patrols when there are often greater numbers of people out walking their dogs.

As part of the campaign, community wardens will approach dog owners to check if they have dog bags ready for use. If not, they will be handed one and asked to use a bag every time their dog fouls in a public place including pavements and verges.

Dog owners are reminded that the bag should be disposed of in a bin and not left in a public place. Bagged dog waste can be placed in any bin – not just designated dog waste bins.

To complement the campaign, leaflets educating people on the implications of failing to clear up after their dog have been produced and wardens will have these available.

Cllr Carwyn Cox, cabinet member for community safety, said: “We are not out to spy on people or jump out and issue a fixed penalty notice.

“These additional patrols are an ideal way to promote responsible dog ownership and educate the very small minority who don’t clear up.

“Dog mess is an eyesore and a health hazard. If you are a dog owner, you have a legal duty to clean up every time your dog messes in a public place. Please bag it, tie it and bin it and help keep the borough free of dog mess.

Andy Aldridge, senior community warden, said: “Time and time again, dog mess comes up as a priority for neighbourhood action groups.

“It is a shame that we need to carry out these patrols as it really is a small minority who give dog owners a bad name. All community wardens carry dog mess bags with them and will provide these to owners if necessary.”

Community safety ‘springs’ into action for latest crime reduction campaign

With the clocks going forward on Sunday 31 March, the Royal Borough’s community safety Team in partnership with Thames Valley Police, is taking the opportunity to remind people, to keep their homes and possessions safe.

The spring burglary prevention campaign is specifically targeted at non-dwelling burglary, including sheds and garages, and kicks off on Monday 25 March with a Road show at Cookham Road allotment between 2 and 3pm.

To complement the Road Shows, the Royal Borough’s community safety team and Thames Valley Police have produced a range of information sheets and cards with hints and tips for keeping homes, sheds and garages safe and burglary-free.

The popular burglary prevention Road Shows will continue to take place throughout the spring and summer. Future dates include:

·       Monday 25 March, 2 to 3.30pm, Bisham Primary School

·       Wednesday 3 April, 10.30 to 11.30am, Maidenhead Library

·       Friday 19 April, 2 to 3.30pm, Waltham St Lawrence School

·       Monday 29 April, 12noon to 2pm, All Saints’ Church, Windsor

·       Saturday 1 June, 10.30am to 4.30pm, Windsor Library, Bachelors Acre, Windsor.

The Road shows provide residents with crime reduction advice and also have examples of locks, information leaflets and personal safety advice.

Details of future Road Shows are available on the community safety website http://www.rbwmsafety4all.org.uk/burglaryroadshows.htm

The community safety partnership has issued the following garden and shed security advice:

·       lock away your garden tools

·       secure contents of sheds by looping them together with a strong chain and secure the chain to the strongest part of your shed/garage

·       property-mark electrical goods by etching on your postcode and house number

·       consider fitting a garage/shed alarm

·       secure side accesses

·       don’t leave garden implements or other items that could be used to break into your house lying around

·       consider using gravel on driveways and around garden sheds – footstep noise helps deter unwanted guests

·       lock cars, even in the garage

·       don’t leave property on show in your vehicle and remove all valuables.

Cllr Carwyn Cox, cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, said: “Spring often heralds the start of better weather with many people able to enjoy their garden or allotment.

“Although incidents of non-dwelling burglaries, which includes sheds, garages and outbuildings, are down on last year, there has unfortunately been a recent spate of such burglaries which is why this is the focus of our latest campaign. We want to do all we can to reduce the numbers of burglaries which is why we are continuing with the Road shows which proved so popular.

“A series of information leaflets and cards have been produced to reinforce the message and these will be used in conjunction with the other information already available. We will update the community safety website to reflect the spring campaign, http://www.rbwmsafety4all.org.uk/crime_reduction.htm

Supt Simon Bowden, local policing Area Commander (LPA) for the Royal Borough, said: Sheds and garages are often the storage place for expensive sports and gardening equipment. If you have to use your garage to store such items, lock it within the garage, security mark it and properly secure the access points. Why not come along to one of the Road shows and take steps to safeguard your property ?
