From PCSO Andrew Davies in Maidenhead:

Hi Jeff

Could you add this to the community messaging system for Maidenhead ?

We have received a few calls over last week or so regarding a female who is knocking on doors and asking for money.  On at least three occasions now, she has claimed to be living up the road and has locked herself out.  She needs £3 to get a spare key, or a taxi to slough.

On one occasion a car and a male has been seen in the area. Please can everyone be careful and report anything suspicious to the police on 101.

The descriptions of these people are as follows.

White female approximately 5ft5 slim with long brown hair and She may be eastern European although we are receiving conflicting reports on accents etc.

The only description we have of the male at this time is that he is white with an ‘ugly’ face, Late 30s, with short dark hair and stubble.

We will be adding this to our tasking for observation, but unfortunately they appear to be knocking at all times of the day.

I have included below a link to the TVP crime reduction website which has some useful crime reduction advice.

FROM THE BOROUGH:

Your vote could mean a Council cash boost for local charities and community projects

VOTE BEFORE WEDNESDAY 5 JUNE 2013 AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Dear Resident

The Royal Borough’s popular Neighbourhood Budget scheme is starting a new financial year with a total of £37,000 to give away to charities and community projects. Your vote can make a real difference to people and organisations that need help right here in our borough – all it needs is a few minutes of your time.

Neighbourhood Budget gives charities and community groups the opportunity to put forward schemes or projects that need a cash boost - and you get to choose which ones will benefit from up to £2,000.

The idea is simple - organisations put in their bids for financial support and those that attract the most votes get the money. The projects list is published on the Council's website and every couple of months the Council tots up the numbers and awards the cash to the most popular. There is also the chance for groups to gain up to £2,000 more in match funding if they can show that they have worked to raise money from other sources.

In the last voting round of 2012/13 some 1,400 votes were cast and grants were given to the public’s top choices:

·       Family Friends Volunteering - £2,000 for a scheme to provide short-term support for families facing difficult times and enabling them to get back on their feet. The aim is to recruit more volunteers from the Black Minority Ethnic communities to help make services more accessible (242 votes)

·
Maidenhead Sailing Club - £2,000 to help provide more facilities for disabled sailors (122 votes)

·
King George VI Day Centre mobility minibus - £1,965 to support the centre's minibus which is used most weekdays to transport elderly residents to and from the centre in Maidenhead (111 votes)

·
Singing for Pleasure Windsor - £2,000 for weekly singing sessions for people with dementia and their carers (91 votes).

To view the projects in the running for your votes in this first round of voting in 2013/14 click on this link and use the Vote Now link to support your favourite.  Encourage your family and friends who live in the borough to vote too - they all add up to well-deserved support for projects that help our local community.

The closing date for the current round is 5pm on Wednesday 5 June 2013. The results will be considered by the Cabinet Participatory Budget Sub Committee on Monday 18 June 2013 and the result announced afterwards.

MEMBERS COMMENTS:

I would like to say, my work email was filled today with all sorts of scam emails, I had won a lottery, someone was writing in tears asking for money, a bank (not mine) had had a security breach on my account, and the Inland Revenue wanted to send me a rebate !

This has also come in from Mary:

Hello Jeff

I recently received confirmation of a ticket booking to the US from American Airlines.  It was set out with all the information – ticket number, price, time, date, destination etc.  I was also told to download the ticket.  Needless to say I hadn’t made this booking so I rang American Airlines and of course it was a scam - they checked the ticket number.  The result was that it left a virus with me – now removed.

Mary
