Summer drink drive

The summer drink drive campaign will shortly take place across all police forces in the UK.  Over the years this has been highly successful in reducing the numbers of drink drivers on our roads, which is a major factor in death and injury to our community.

One in seven UK road deaths result from drink drive crashes, where the driver was over the limit.

As part of this, a week of action will take place with police forces from across Europe.

Research shows that increasing the number of breath tests conducted by officers, reduces the number of drink drive crashes.

When can you breathalyse?

A driver can be required to provide a sample for a roadside breath test, if the officer suspects the driver has committed any of the following:

·       Driving having consumed alcohol

·       Driver is committing a moving traffic offence

·       Driver has been involved in an accident

Hi Jeff,

Can you circulate this photo of a bike stolen from a recent garage break.  It is distinctive, so your members may well spot it. (photo attached).

It is a red and white Kona, Nunu mountain bike, worth £750.00. The bike was stolen during a burglary non dwelling.

If anyone does spot it can they report it to the PEC on the 101 number for my attention.

Many thanks

PINKNEYS GREEN & FURZE PLATT:

21/5  Tuesday 2 p.m.  Edinburgh Road.  Distraction Burglary.  The owner had a knock at the door.  The male offender said he was from the gas board and although he had no identification, the owner let him in.  The offender asked to check the meter and boiler.  The owner became suspicious and asked the offender to leave, which he did before meeting up with another man outside the property. The owner then noticed some money was missing from a cupboard.  The offender is white, 5ft 2in tall, about 40-years-old, with black wavy hair, clean shaven and of medium build. He was wearing a blue shirt with black speckles, lighter blue trousers and black pointy slip-on shoes. He spoke with a local accent. The second man is white, about 6ft tall, slim, with black hair. He was wearing a dark tracksuit.  How to deal with someone at the door ?  Always use your door chain – the noise of you engaging the chain, lets anyone on the other side know that you are not an easy target, but someone who is aware !  The basic rule:-

NO-ONE GETS INTO YOUR HOME UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM, OR THEY HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT

If you have a meter inside your home, do not rely upon an ID – they are far too easy to obtain via the internet.  All services that need to enter your home, are only too happy AND ENCOURAGE YOU to set a password.  That way, there can be no confusion.  When you get your next bill (or if you have one) phone your service provider and set one asap !  That avoids any possibility of a Distraction.

Mobile drug and alcohol treatment service moves to new Ascot location

The Royal Borough’s mobile drug and alcohol treatment service has recently moved to a different location in Ascot, courtesy of Ascot Racecourse.

It is now located in Car Park No 6 (Hermitage Parade) on Ascot High Street, which provides greater accessibility for people wishing to visit the drop-in service.

The outreach service – a specially kitted-out bus – is fully equipped to offer a safe space and privacy providing a range of services, including:

·       free and confidential advice and support from experienced and professional   workers to anyone concerned about their substance misuse

·       brief interventions

·       referrals and signposting to other parts of the SMART* recovery service such as groups and key working

·       referral and access to an alcohol detox nurse

·       advice and support for concerned significant others (family and carers)

·       access to a trained counsellor.

Cllr David Coppinger, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “We have had very positive feedback from people who accessed the service in Ascot with many saying they wouldn’t have been able to get help and advice without it being located here.

“The outreach service is invaluable and we are very grateful to Ascot Racecourse for providing space in one of their car parks.”

The outreach service is also available every Monday at Hanover Way Community Centre car park, Dedworth, between 2 and 4pm. No appointment is necessary.

Anyone in the borough wanting help with their drug or alcohol misuse can:

·          visit the mobile outreach vehicle

·          call the Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) for an appointment on 01628 796732/3 or email daat@rbwm.gov.uk

SMARTer drug and treatment services celebrate first year

The Royal Borough’s drug and alcohol treatment provider SMART is celebrating the first year of providing services to clients in the borough.

SMART took over services in April last year and during this time:

·             embedded a successful structured day programme, ranging from peer support to dealing with negative emotions and cravings

·             delivered an extensive service in Windsor ranging from groups to home visits

·             provided outreach provision to communities such as Ascot and Windsor

·             achieved better outcomes for opiate clients than the national average

·             established a volunteer scheme to develop people’s skills and to empower our clients to reintegrate into society.

New services introduced include:

·       provision of outreach ‘bus’

·       integrated alcohol and drug treatment

·       detox for alcohol clients

·       screening and assessment.

The outreach service launched in November last year has been well received by clients with uptake steadily increasing.

Cllr David Coppinger, cabinet member with responsibility for the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT), said: “SMART has made a real difference to the breadth of treatment services available, including the provision of an outreach service.

“The transition from the previous provider went relatively smoothly with the majority of clients moving over to SMART. Many of those who didn’t transfer immediately have now resumed their treatment with SMART which is testament to the quality of services and the staff. Staff at SMART and the borough’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team are to be congratulated for their hard work and commitment.

“I am confident that SMART will continue to provide the same high level of service.”

Claire Gomm, DAAT manager and commissioner, said: “I am tremendously proud of what has been achieved at SMART during the first year. The centre and its services were developed to be in line with clients’ needs and the success of the service clearly demonstrates we are providing what’s wanted.

We will continue to build on what has been achieved in this first year and ensure that, wherever possible, services offered at SMART continue to reflect the needs of our clients”.

Jenny Bryan, SMART service manager, said: “A lot of energy has gone into working alongside clients to establish what they have wanted to get out of treatment. We’ve found that families are a big motivator, that clients want a menu of options to pick from and want the services to be in their own community. With this in mind we developed a group dedicated to family members and friends to support their loved ones. We have a mobile bus that goes out to the communities allowing SMART to reach out to people rather than waiting for them to come to us. We have also created a range of services that meet individual needs.

“We are dedicated to helping our clients stay in recovery and build a life free from drug or alcohol misuse. We look forward to building on our success this year and continue to welcome feedback from people who use the service as to how we can make it more effective.”

Do you own a Landrover Defender ?  Do you know someone who does ???

PC Pete Bullett from Ascot Police Station thought this may be of interest if you do !!!

Advice to Landrover drivers following spate of thefts

Owners of Landrover Defenders are being warned to remain vigilant following a series of thefts across Surrey and the surrounding area since January.

Officers are currently investigating more than 20 reports of thefts of Landrover Defenders, with mostly older models being targeted, in particular 1990-2005 models of the 90 and 110 type.

Vehicles have been stolen from across the county, including Cranleigh, Staines, Farnham, Dorking, Witley, Alfold, Frimley Green, Ewhurst, Tadworth and Mytchett. Officers are also investigating a number of other thefts in Thames Valley, Sussex and Hampshire.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Kerry Whindle said: "We are currently investigating 23 offences and it is clear that these vehicles are being specifically targeted. We have also established that these vehicle thieves are mostly targeting older models which are not fitted with immobilisers.

"I would urge owners of these vehicles to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity relating to their vehicles. Can I also recommend that owners consider additional security measures for their vehicles, including steering or pedal box locks, alarms, immobilisers, hidden battery isolator switches or even something as simple as blocking your Defender with another car on the driveway.”

DC Whindle added: "We are carrying out a full investigation into these thefts and hope that by reminding owners of Landrover Defenders of some basic crime prevention advice that we may be able to prevent further offences from taking place. I am also appealing to anyone with any information about any of these thefts to come forward straightaway.”

10-11 May Theft of a green Landrover Defender from Waterhouse Lane Tadworth;

8-9 May Theft of a green Landrover Defender from The Village, Ewhurst;

More from the Borough – just clearing accumulated emails !

Volunteers spring into action with community clean-ups

Residents are being invited to bag up litter and clear vegetation as part of a series of community clean-ups across the borough.

Volunteers will join members of the Royal Borough’s community safety team, community wardens and, in one instance, volunteer police cadets to help with the clean-ups, the locations and start times being:

·       Saturday 25 May, 9.45am at Maidenhead Police Station to clean the Green Way, North Town Moor

·       Tuesday 28 May, 11am at South Ascot Recreation Ground

·       Thursday 30 May, 2.30pm at the Dedworth Manor open space and play area, Dedworth

·       Friday 31 May, 1pm at the Gullet, Ludlow Road, Maidenhead.

Cllr Carwyn Cox, cabinet member for Community Safety, said: “The areas chosen for the latest community clean-ups are generally clean and tidy but we want to make sure they stay that way.

Clean-up days are great – but the effort must be sustained throughout the year. Most of the clean-ups have been organised by our Community Safety Team which is keen to promote pride in our communities, but it is also pleasing to note that the police cadets will be heavily involved with the clean-up at North Town Moor in Maidenhead.

“We also hope that having a cleaner environment will help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.”

He added: “It is astounding to think that last year, the council’s Street Care team removed approximately 4,423 tonnes of litter – this is enough to fill 214 double decker buses!

“It is a shame that people see fit to drop their litter rather than place it in the bin or take it home with them. It takes the same time to place litter in a bin as it does to drop it. There is no excuse.

“Please come along on the day and support the community and make it greener, cleaner and more pleasant for everyone.”

“Please come along on the day and support the community and make it greener, cleaner and more pleasant for everyone.”

Sgt Rob Dalton, volunteer police cadet leader for Windsor and Maidenhead, said: "The North Town Moor community clean-up is another excellent opportunity for the Windsor and Maidenhead volunteer police cadets to work with their community on local initiatives. This shows that young people are committed to making their communities safer and cleaner and are not afraid to get their hands dirty in the process.

"The cadets will continue to support their neighbourhood policing team with other planned events."
