Crime:
5 June 2013
A
reminder – if the weather is hot, only have windows left open, if you
are in the room. The minute
you leave for another part of the house – those windows must be closed. If
you need them open for ventilation, or to allow cool air to circulate, you
must fit ‘Window Limiters’.
These are like window locks and enable you to lock a window open a
few inches. ANOTHER
REMINDER – We
have had an IPAD stolen from the table in a coffee shop in the town –
the old ‘postcard’ scam’. If
you are walking around the town and spot someone with an IPHONE or other
‘device’ just sitting on the table, can you please do something.
NHW is not only in your street, it is when you’re everywhere.
You cannot go up to a stranger and remind them, but you can of
course go up to a member of staff and ask them to approach the customer. We
must all do our bit to make our community safer. First
a message from Catherine McLinden,
Age Concern Windsor. She
is organising computer lessons at the Spencer Denny Centre, Park Corner.
I have attached her
poster giving details and dates. If
you are not too confident about emails and sending attachments or using
the internet for researching holidays – even using Google Maps – this
would be really useful for you ! Another
date for you from Sheila Holmes
who organises OPAF – the Older
Persons Advisory Forum: Hi
Jeff, Once
again, I am organising a symposium on Tuesday 24th September in the
Desborough Suite at RBWM Town Hall in Maidenhead, the theme will be Loneliness
and Isolation , what can we do to
help ? Sheila
and her team do a fantastic job raising the downside issues of the elderly
and making sure we find solutions. She
was writing to me to get some police / PCSO and RBWM Community Warden
assistance. A
reminder of a date for your diary – The
Ascot Retirement Fair – Ascot Racecourse Wednesday 21st
August. If you have been
before you will know how brilliant this is.
If you haven’t and you are over 50 – or you have a parent who
is – this is an event not to be missed.
It is huge and every facility needed by anyone over 50 is
represented. Thousands attend
and there is entertainment, as well as information, all day.
More details will come out from the organiser Cllr David Hilton
nearer the time. Just book
that date off in your diary now ! Two
UNLOCKED
bikes stolen from outside a house in Windsor.
Please remember to take the time to locate the serial number of
your bike and register it either at: or
on ASAP
! 600
bike new warning stickers have just arrived as I write this.
They will be available from the police reception desk.
I will also ask PCs and PCSOs to carry a few with them.
There is a yellow warning box for you to write your postcode and
house number (if you feel that would be too much information if someone
stole the bike, when registering them on the 2 web sites create a reference
number of your own and put that on the strip – we will know what you
have done and check for that number if we recover the bike).
It then wraps around your central bar, just above the pedals with
the yellow box showing sideways, so that it is always very visible. MAIDENHEAD

a message from the Borough re recent press interest in taxis: Working
to make taxi journeys safe in the Royal Borough People
hailing or ordering a cab in the Royal Borough should make sure they use
drivers and vehicles that are properly licensed and regulated. That’s
the council’s message following a recent public safety incident, which
underlined the need for would-be passengers to check that the car they get
into is a ‘proper taxi’. Licensed
cabs carry distinctive registration plates – one for hackney carriages
which can be hailed in the street and a different one for private hire
cars which must be booked in advance. Cllr
Carwyn Cox,
cabinet member for environmental services, said: “It is very important
that Royal Borough residents and visitors can be confident when they take
a cab that they are getting into a car that is safe with a driver who has
been through the Royal Borough’s rigorous checking and licensing
procedures. “We
have systems in place for helping to ensure that drivers are people you
can trust, will get you to your destination efficiently and have vehicles
that are in good condition and roadworthy. They also must have illuminated
taxi signs on the roof – so these, with the distinctive licence plates
on the rear, tell would-be passengers that they are getting into a
properly licensed cab. “Our
advice is – make sure you check for the roof sign and registration plate
before getting into a cab. And don’t forget, private hire cars are not
licensed to pick up passengers on the street; they must be booked
ahead.” To
make licensed hackney carriages even more visible the council is working
with owners and drivers to roll out the Royal Borough’s distinctive
livery. The aim is to eventually have all hackney carriages in white and
sporting the council’s logo, set at an angle on both sides of the
vehicle. Currently about half of the 148 licensed hackney carriages are
liveried in this way. All
drivers must also be DBS checked every three years (the new version of CRB
checks) and carry ID. Chief
Inspector Lee Townsend
Deputy
local Area Commander, said: “Both private hire and hackney carriages
provide a valuable service to the community, especially contributing to
the night time economy which is when customers are at their most
vulnerable. Taxi drivers must be very aware of the need to offer their
customers a totally safe service in which people of all ages can have
confidence. “Following
recent allegations we have contacted drivers and owners to remind them of
their responsibilities and offer practical hints on how to operate their
businesses professionally and to the highest standards.” MEMBERS

TORTOISE
in Sandringham Road: Hi
Jeff, I
have distributed this flyer below to my immediate neighbours
(approximately 20) and was planning to put some up on the local lamp posts
for a couple of days. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Stephen Treasured
family pet of 16 years MISSING! My
son’s tortoise (I have been entrusted to look after him) is missing from
my enclosed back garden. During
the summer months I let him get about and eat the plants he likes and
enjoy the warm sunshine. However, the only way he can get out is if my
gate is left open (it has a secondary latch) or if he has been taken. Please
ask around and if someone has found a tortoise, or recently acquired a
tortoise, please let me know. I would be so very grateful as I’ve yet to
break the news to my son, who I know will be devastated! Please
call me, Stephen, on 07962 648538 or call around at 63, Sandringham Road
SL6 7PL Thank
you!!
