Crime: 12 June 2013

First, just to let you know that Paula, our Neighbourhood Administrator, has been beavering away, creating lovely new Neighbourhood Pages for TVPs website.  They have new photos of your entire Neighbourhood Team.  These are now completely up to date and online for you to view – saying that – there will be another change from Monday as the new permanent Neighbourhood Inspector has just been appointed for Maidenhead – Insp Mike Darrer.  His picture will go up on Monday.  Our thanks to John Mckee who has been holding the fort since Insp. Lee Townsend was promoted to Deputy Area Commander.  Just follow the links below

More spare wheels stolen from under cars.  One in Ascot:

4/6 – 11/6  Tuesday / Tuesday  Priory Road.  The mechanism for an electric gate has been cut, allowing the gates to be opened manually.  The spare wheel has been removed from under a Range Rover – this is the third time this year !  We are having a series of these across the area in the last few weeks - 5 or 6 at Legoland alone and work is being done on CCTV footage of 2 cars being used to do this.  One car has also been targeted twice – both attempts.  There is a security device that can be fitted, which means the release mechanism is not under the car, but inside.  They usually use a small battery operated cutter, to slice through the holding mechanism.  After removing the wheel, they jam the cage back up, so that the owner is not aware.  These can release later, as the car is driven over speed humps, causing quite a shock.  If you have a spare wheel under your car, can you please check that it is there ?

NEXT A WARNING FROM DATCHET.  The owner thought the car was completely safe as she was still in the car park a few metres away !!!

11/6  Tuesday 12.10 p.m.  Car Park, Horton Road, Datchet.  The owner loaded her car up in the car park after attending an art fair.  She placed her handbag and a painting on the front seat and closed the door, while she went to speak to a friend – SHE HAD NOT LOCKED IT !  While chatting, a grey car pulled into the car park and drove slowly around.  A passenger got out and wandered amongst the cars.  The car then drove out of the car park.  As it passed the owner, the driver shouted – ‘Have you still got your handbag’ !  When she got to her car, she found the car door open and the handbag and contents missing.  She looked around and saw the other man running from the car park and she gave chase, but lost him near the library.  The police attended immediately and carried out an Area Search’, but no one was located.

We could all make this mistake – we all now know not to do this !

There will be another update for your Neighbourhood Team shortly, as your SergeantMartin Littlewood, has now been confirmed as the new Sergeant to cover Ascot following the retirement of the current Sergeant there.

10/6  Monday 8 a.m. / 6.30 p.m.  Grenfell Road.  Someone has thrown stones at a front door causing damage and breaking the glass.

28/5 – 11/6  Gwent Close, Cox Green.  Attempted garage break – door damaged.  Unknown if they got in – nothing stolen.

11/6 Tuesday 11.10 a.m.  Highfield Lane – Distraction Burglary.  An offender knocked on a front door to ask if any structural work needed doing.  The aggrieved recognised him as someone that had done some work exactly a year ago.  He agreed to some work that would cost £200 up front, for materials.  The man then asked to use the toilet and disappeared upstairs.  The owner heard the loo flush and he re-appeared.  He was then driven to a cash till, to withdraw the money.  After putting in his pin, the man punched in £250 – the costs of materials had gone up !  The aggrieved tried to object, but the man took the money and said he would be back shortly, when he had purchased what he needed.  When he got home, the aggrieved checked upstairs and found items of jewellery had been stolen.  Many lessons to be learnt here.  The first – NO-ONE COMES INTO YOUR HOME UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM, OR THEY HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT.  Second – our NHW motto – WE DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR.  If anyone of pensionable age needs work done, they should contact Louise at Repair with Care – her handouts are attached once again.  Please let any elderly – I mean over 55 – neighbours, have a copy or at least a contact number.  This type of offence need not and should not happen.

11/6  Tuesday 3.30 a.m.  White Paddock, Woodlands Park.  Burglary Dwelling.  Access via forced rear patio doors.  Tidy search – Mobile, Plat Station 3, laptops X 2, petrol strimmer, jewellery, money boxes, Handbag, fishing tackle, electric drills X s, and Karcher pressure washer

OLDFIELD & BRAY:

MEMBERS COMMENTS:

First a reminder about calls from PPI sources:

Hi Jeff,

I just had a call on my mobile( caller unknown) with a recorded message saying they need to speak to me urgently, about my PPI policy.

As soon as I heard it, I cancelled the call.  I have never had a PPI.

In the past, I have had text's which I have deleted immediately.

Just thought you should know , Another scam!!!

Keep up the good work.

Regards Howard

I emailed Howard back to say he must be the only person on the planet, not getting 2 or 3 of these calls a day – let alone the texts and emails !  IF YOU GET ONE – HANG UP / BIN IT !

Scoop the Poop Day

Reminder to ‘Bag it, Tie it, Bin it’

The Royal Borough is continuing to promote responsible dog ownership by supporting National Scoop the Poop Day on Friday 14 June.

To support the day, the RBWM Community Wardens will be out and about reminding people to clear up after their dog and to ‘Bag it, Tie it, Bin it’. They also have supplies of leaflets outlining the law and how to report irresponsible dog owners.

Community Wardens can issue fixed penalty notices to anyone they see allowing a dog to foul and failing to promptly remove the mess. Anyone who refuses to pay the fixed penalty (currently £52), can be prosecuted and may face a court appearance with a maximum penalty of £1,000.

The Mayor, Cllr Andrew Jenner, said: “I fully support this day and anything the council does to encourage responsible dog ownership. As a father and a dog owner, I know all too well how important it is to ‘scoop the poop’. Dog fouling is unpleasant and, at its worst, a potential health hazard which can cause blindness.”

Cllr Eileen Quick, cabinet member for leisure and libraries, said: “National Scoop the Poop Day is a highly visible way to remind dog owners to ‘Bag it, Tie it and Bin it’. The day enables the community safety team to continue to promote responsible dog ownership.”

“The Community Wardens will not hesitate to issue fines to owners who fail to ‘scoop the poop’. It is not all about enforcement however, which is why we have produced posters and leaflets to educate people. Community Wardens carry small supplies of dog poop bags and they will hand these out to owners, if they need a bag. The day is not a one-off – we work throughout the year to raise awareness and I would like to thank all the responsible dog owners who are already doing their bit to make the Borough cleaner and safer.”

Irresponsible dog owners who do not clear up after their dog can be reported to the Council on 01628 683800.
