Crime: 16 August 2013

A REALLY GOOD END TO THE WEEK WITH VERY LITTLE CRIME IN THE LAST 48 HOURS.

NO BURGLARIES IN THE LAST 48 HOURS !

Firstly some scams you need to be aware of if you are connected to businesses:
14/8  Wednesday 1 p.m.  Leisure Pool, WindsorA SCAM – 2 men walked up to the counter and asked if they could look through the notes in the till serial numbers that began with ‘FR’.  During the confusion that ensued up to £400 has gone missing.  They are both described as black in their late 40s.
14/8  Wednesday 1 p.m.  Post Office, Vale Road, WindsorA SCAM.  A man entered the post office and selected some items to purchase.  He then asked at the till for a £20 Vodaphone upgrade voucher, which had to be printed out at the till.  He then asked for some batteries.  The sales person turned around to get them, but held onto the voucher at all times.  The man said he needed to check something with his father who was outside in the car and left.  All the items were unpaid for and left on the counter.  He never returned.  The staff then rang Vodaphone who confirmed the voucher had in fact been used within 5 minutes.  The staff have no idea how as they still had the voucher.  He is described as white, about 30, 5’7’’, medium build wearing a T shirt and trousers.  Anyone got any ideas how this can happen ???

MEMBERS COMMENTS:
Letters from China

Hi Jeff
Just to let you know I received what sounds like exactly the same letter as John, i.e. Private Investment Manager with US$21M to be liquidated and transferred as cash to China.  He proposes we split the funds in half – The letter says that because we share the same surname, I will be beneficiary of the funds.

Whole letter sounds too bizarre for anyone to believe it.

Jo
Can I say, since this I have received dozens of examples.  Thank you to those that dropped them into the police stations.  We had a plague of these about 2 years ago since when they have completely dropped off.  Last time they were all sent from Bracknell !  Once someone has access to the online phone book / Electoral Roll, it is a very simple matter to ‘mail merge’ personal details, into thousands of letters with blank insertion points.  If you get one.  BIN IT and tell any elderly or vulnerable people in your road to do the same.  They haven’t been chosen specifically and they have not obtained their details for ulterior purposes.  They are simply random, amongst thousands of others.
