Crime: 29 August 2013

Quite a busy week !

My apologies if I have not yet responded to an email from you – I am now down to 692 emails !  As fast as I respond to them, more arrive !  I am not complaining, it is what I want you to do.  If you need help, advice or don’t know who to ask for help and advice, just let me know !  It may take a little time for me to get back to you, but I will – or I may simply forward your email, to the person most able to assist.

I have received some indecent photographs from one of our members that she has found in Spring Walk, which is a small footpath between North Star Lane and Boyn Valley Road ? It joins up with Westborough Court ?  Several of these photos have been found in the last few months, but not on a regular basis.  Usually she picks them up and destroys them.  They are just left on the footpath, in a nearby phone box or placed in the bushes.  There are no contact details, so this is unlikely someone offering services.  If anyone else is aware of this matter or any other similar instances in Maidenhead, rather than destroying the photographs, can you place them in a secure wrapper and hand them to any police officer / PCSO you see, or hand them into the police station for my attention, with details of what where and when.

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:

I asked Mike Briggs at the Thatcham Vehicle Testing Centre if there is any further advice we can offer re the theft of Catalytic converters from underneath and from the back of cars.  He has sent me this back:

Hi Jeff

I think that you have covered all the bases in the advice.

You can get kits for marking vehicles from a company called RetainaGroup, they are probably the best bet for this type of marking. Their kits normally are used for the entire vehicle, covering :

  • All glass
  • Panels
  • Interior
  • And wheels

The kit is made up of fluids and labels which self-etch  into paint, glass and metal and are also UV marked also.

Another would be datatag but they are really for motorcycles and they are the current licence holder for the CESAR scheme for plant and agricultural markings.

If you have any other questions please ask also if you have pictures of the vehicle with the locations that would also be good for us

All the best

Mike

OUR ADVICE WAS:
The police are actively investigating these crimes. However, here are some things you could do to reduce the chances of your vehicle being targeted:
Advice for vehicle owners

  • Where possible, park in your garage
  • Alternatively, park in a location that restricts access to your spare wheel.
  • Consider security lighting or parking in area easily observed by neighbours and other members of the public.
  • If your spare wheel is ‘bolted on,’ consider using locking wheel nuts or manufacturer recommended secure fixings.
  • If appropriate, permanently mark / identify your spare wheel with a unique number such as the vehicle index number – check with the vehicle manufacturer before considering this option.

Advice for businesses

  • Fencing around vehicles may act as a deterrent to opportunist thieves
  • If you have a fleet of vehicles, block those with high clearance using vehicles with low clearance. Obstruct access underneath the vehicles
  • Consider the installation of security lighting.
  • Consider installing appropriate CCTV to protect your vehicle fleet
  • If your spare wheel is ‘bolted on,’ consider using locking wheel nuts or manufacturers recommended secure fixings
  • If appropriate, permanently identify your spare wheel with a unique number such as the vehicle index number – check with the vehicle manufacturer before considering engraving or etching.

I have also been asked to put out a witness appeal relating to a robbery in the Farnhams:

At approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday 18 August, a robbery took place in Church Road, Farnham Royal.  The two aggrieved members of the public, were sitting in a silver Honda Civic, when they were attacked, assaulted by a group of six or seven offenders, who then stole their car.

Some of the offenders then drove away in the victim’s Honda Civic.  Just after midnight, it was found ablaze in Park Lane, Horton.

Were you in the Farnham Royal, or Horton areas between11 p.m. on the 18 August and 1 a.m. on 19 August?

If so did you see the Silver Honda Civic, or anything else that may have been suspicious or related?

If you did then please contact PC 7140 Ashley Ruane on the 101 non emergency number as shewould be keen to hear from you.  Just call 101 and quote the crime reference GD4308807/13

If you ever witness what you believe at the time to be a crime in progress then please call 999 right away.

You may also make a report by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
