As a patient of Cookham Medical Centre you are a member of the Patient Participation Group (PPG). The PPG is run by a committee made up of patients and doctors from the Practice. We work with the practice to help all patients to take responsibility for their own health and that of their family and the wider community. This help takes several forms:

  • information - the Patient Library is situated in the surgery waiting area, and includes books and videos available for patient use; newsletter; outside noticeboard and health promotion events.
  • self-help groups - there are various local groups, supporting different needs. Several are represented on our committee.
  • training - emergency first aid and baby-sitting training are examples of courses provided at the medical centre.
  • monitoring services - we make regular checks on how well medical services are meeting your needs. If you are asked to comment, please do so, so that others may benefit from your experience. If you wish to make comments or suggestions at any time, please talk to a member of staff or use the 'Suggestions Box' in the waiting room. You can approach any member of the PPG committee in confidence if you wish.
  • health plans - we monitor the plans of the health authority, primary care trust and hospital trusts and raise matters seen as important to Cookham patients.
  • support for the medical centre - this ranges from practical tasks around the centre to lobbying in support of medical initiatives.
  • fund raising - to provide books, leaflets and videos for the patient library.

You are welcome at any activity organised by the PPG. You are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting and vote in elections and on resolutions. New members are always needed on the committee.

Cookham PPG is affiliated to the National Association for Patient Participation (a non-political registered charity). Through association we have access to the network of groups across the country.

Also available from the surgery are our 'Cookham Walks' wallet suggest donation of £5. 'Chair-based exercise video' £15, Short version £6, free leaflets on various health matters, our free PPG Newsletter and the Surgery Annual Report.

We look forward to meeting you at a future event and would welcome your comments.
