In the past two or three years Holy Trinity has had tremendous support from well wishers in Cookham and from further afield. Kind benefactors have helped us to renovate the Parish Centre (which is a focus of activity in the village) and the Bell Tower (a local landmark, now housing eight retuned bells and two new ones!)

This has encouraged us to acknowledge the goodwill which we enjoy by re-launching our charity the ‘Friends of Holy Trinity’ this autumn. NADFAS lecturer Shirley Smith FRSA has agreed to give us her illustrated talk on the subject of the Magi at Holy Trinity on December 8th at 7.30pm. Shirley comments: ‘The scene of the Adoration of the Three Magi is central to our image of the Christmas story today so it might come as a surprise to learn that their number, appearance and ethnic origins were all  additions to the biblical account. Indeed by the 16th century they were not the only later addition to the text, as we shall discover in this lecture which is a sequel to my Picturing the Nativity delivered in Cookham in 2006.

The Friends of Holy Trinity are hosting this event. Existing members may receive free tickets and new members may benefit likewise when they sign on (subject to the availability of tickets). Tickets (£10) and membership application forms are available from Holy Trinity Parish Office 01628 529661, Ann Howard 486531, Colin Jackson 784166 or David Harrold 483058.

Do come and join us!

Footnote about the ‘Friends’

Holy Trinity has stood by the River Thames for over 1,000 years and we are proud of the contribution it has made, and will continue to make, to Cookham and the area. Many visitors visit our Church every week and many pass through the beautiful churchyard on their way to, and from, the river. Indeed many linger in the grounds savouring the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings.....or perhaps listening to the glorious bells and choral singing.

All this costs money to maintain so we have formed a special group of those who appreciate this environment and wish to ensure that it is still there - and available for many years to come. For a minimum of £10 per year, people can become Friends of Holy Trinity and maintain a link through our newsletters and special events. Subscriptions and donations from the Friends, in turn, finance projects at Holy Trinity to maintain the Buildings, Churchyard and its surrounds in this picturesque village.
