The Club was founded for the study and encouragement of the arts and although nowadays there is a strong emphasis on the visual side, painting, sketching etc., we do still try to include the musical and literary arts whenever possible.

Outing in 2007 to Broughton Castle, stately home of Lord and Lady Saye

We offer a wide range of activities – there are usually three or four functions each month. The monthly meetings include illustrated lectures and painting demonstrations and are held on the third Thursday at Cookham Parish Centre. There are weekly Tuesday afternoon workshop sessions, held at Cookham Dean Village Hall, monthly Sunday painting expeditions and all day workshops four times a year, including life drawing. In addition there are coach outings to the major London exhibitions and to stately homes and gardens. There are social events such as summer garden parties and Christmas socials.

Artists at Work

The Club’s main event in the year is the Annual Art Exhibition which attracts a wide entry from both members and non-members. All works go before a selection committee. Members have the privilege of having at least one of their entries accepted. The exhibition is of a high standard, there is a very good sales record and visitors come from a wide area. Pottery, ceramics, wood carvings and pewter objects are also entered for sale. We also have a weekend exhibition and screen sale in the spring each year and alternate years a modern art weekend exhibition.

Club Art Holiday 2007

At the beginning of each month a Newsletter is sent out, giving details of coming activities. Membership is open to those who practise or are generally interested in and supportive of the Arts in general.
