The Royal British Legion

Cookham, Cookham Dean and

Pinkneys Green Branch

Our branch was formed on the 1st February 1929, nearly 80 years ago. Many changes have occurred in that time including the formation of a thriving and energetic Women's Section and its later demise and incorporation into the main Branch. The Ladies we have today are still active and highly valued.

The purpose of the Legion is to support our fighting forces in every way we can e.g.the Broken Covenant Campaign, and to offer assistance both practical and financial to those ex-service personnel and their immediate dependants who are in difficulty or need.  These still include those involved in World War II as well as all the conflicts since.

The funding necessary to provide this assistance is all directed into the Poppy Appeal Fund. Events to raise money for the Fund are organised by the Branch throughout the year though the main effort occurs during the period of 'Remembrance Tide', the two week period up and including Rememberance Sunday. the 11th November. In the year to June 2007 £26 million was raised nationally, our branch contributing over £19,000 to that amount.

The Branch normally meets in the Cookham Social Club, Cookham Rise on the third Thursday in most months.
