PLEASE COME AND JOIN US.
Previous armed service is not a requirement.
Why not come along to one of our meetings at Elizabeth House

Royal
British Legion Remit
1. To support the fighting forces by campaigning for the
maintenance and improvement of the Government’s Military Covenant
( the Legion’s action in 2011 resulted in an additional £40
million compensation grant for injured service men and women ).
2. To provide practical and financial help to those ex-service
personnel and their immediate dependants in difficulty or in need,
ever more important to assist those made and being made redundant
since the Iraq war.
Branch
Activities
1. Our overriding task is to raise as much money as possible
throughout the year for the Legion’s Poppy Appeal. This reaches a peak during the 2 week period prior to
Remembrance Day 11th November, when, for 2 weeks, we use
all means possible to sell Poppies ie.house to house, supermarkets,
shops, pubs and schools etc collections. A large number of local
people and organisations including Rotary Club and Winterhill Golf
Club help us to do
this. We raised over £20,000 in 2010 and
2011.
2. During the year we also have other fundraising events
including stands at the Cookham Scout Fair and Cookham Dean Village
Fete, and Military Evenings with guest speakers at Cookham Dean
Cricket Club.
3. We have an experienced and active Welfare Officer helping the
needy.
4. We regularly send parcels to our forces in Afghanistan.
