The Ecologist, a glossy UK magazine, has an article on Marsh Meadow in their October issue. It talks about Marsh Meadow being '...one of the unspoilt places that epitomises the every essence of the southern English landscape. Here, the eye still meets unbroken views of lush woodland sweeping down to the river Thames, surrounded by open riverside meadows. It is a small piece of paradise...'. They go on to talk about the parking proposals, but not a word about Ratty and Mole!!

The Ecologist is owned and edited by Zach Goldsmith, the son of the late James Goldsmith.

Robert and Viola Eeles from Vancouver in Canada sent a newspaper cutting about Marsh Meadow with the address of 'Town of Cookham, England'. Re Marsh Meadow. We should all be very impressed with our postal services for delivering it to David Ricardo, the organiser of the Marsh Meadow Protection Group, who lives in Cookham Village.

Sarah Elizabeth Dean, from Ohio, sent the letter below to Cookham Parish Council. Sarah was interviewed on Radio Berkshire 104.5FM on Tuesday 5th September between 7.00am and 9.00am.  Sarah's letter is printed below.

(the spelling and punctuation is as it was sent).

Dear Village Council

Please don't put a parking lot on a place so special as Marsh Meadow! That meadow has brought joy to not only Toad, Ratty, and Mole, but to the millions of people who have read about them. I mean come on people come from half-way around the world just to walk through that meadow! I mean the world doesn't need another parking lot! It won't hurt people to not be able to park right in front of a store or building, that's why God gave you legs! To walk with, the only people it might hurt would be older people and people with disabilitys. Plus think about all the animals who live in Marsh Meadow! You would destroy their homes! How would you like it if all of a sudden somebody decided to build a parking lot on your house, where would you go with your family? Please don't be as cruel as to kick those creatures (that were there before you) out of there homes. You will also maybe give your-self a bad image destroying Marsh Meadow! Now you may think that you aren't the ones who are going to tear up the Meadow, if you do decide to put a parking lot in, but you were the ones who decided to put the parking lot in! So you can count me against the decision of destroying Marsh Meadow! I hope that this letter has made you think about what you will do if you destroy this worldwide treasure.

Sincerely

Her younger brother, Andrew, writes:

Think you should make your parking lot some were else. If you do this you will be taking a piece of History.
