_________________________________________________________________________
OPEN
FORUM Mr Pat Davey from High Road
queried whether Cookham Rise Primary School had broken the terms of their
lease by planting the trees in the leased part of the playing field. The
Clerk confirmed that this was not specifically covered in the lease but
hedges and fences were stated as not being over 5ft high. Christina Lewis
(nee Hibbins), Head Teacher of Cookham Rise Primary School spoke firstly
to apologise for not asking permission from Cookham Parish Council. She
said that the children had requested the trees through the school council
and they had been donated as a gift. The School had taken advice from RBWM
as to the species and the planting scheme had been approved by Braywick
Nurseries. The School was reluctant to dig the trees up but were offering
to write a clause in to the lease to state that the School would pay for
the trees to be removed should the land revert back to the Alfred Major
Playing Field. Mr Davey then spoke to ask whether any more trees would be
planted. Mrs Lewis confirmed that this was a one-off project and Gaynor
Sproules confirmed that the school was only concerned with providing a
pleasant environment for the children. The Chairman commented on the time
and efforts of the Parish Council in the past to secure the extra land for
the school.
