CHAIRMAN’S SUBMISSIONS:
There were several matters discussed. The Clerk had received a letter from
Sharon Winfield regarding a Stile Replacement on FP 26. Sharon had
received a number of complaints about the concrete stile at the south end
of this path. The land owner is not willing to install a swing gate and it
is now proposed to install a new kissing gate on the verge in front of the
existing stile. Although the kissing gate would affect the visual
appearance of the verge, it would also open up a circular route to the
less able and those with pushchairs. The Council discussed the matter and
AGREED to support the venture.
A draft letter was then
circulated in answer to a number of emails from Neill Fryer of Cookham
Dean Football Club. It was AGREED that this letter should be sent and the
Council would endeavour to set up a meeting with the Football Club prior
to the start of the new season. The date suggested to the Club is Monday 3rd
September at 6.00pm in the Parish Office. Any interested Councillors are
welcome to attend this meeting.
Cllr Brar mentioned that some
youths were camping on the Alfred Major Recreations Ground. They were
asked by both the Clerk and Cllr Innes not to camp here in future.
The Clerk also received a
letter from Chief Inspector James Templer of Thames Valley Police. The
letter referred to the recent decision of Cookham Parish Council to agree,
in principle, to fund a PCSO, ring-fenced to Cookham, @£15,000 per year
for two years. This letter confirmed that the cost would be £15,000 for
this year but did not confirm the cost for the second year. The letter
also stated that the PCSO would only be deployed in Cookham for a
guaranteed 50% of the working week. There were no guarantees that the PCSO
would spend 100% of the time working in our parish. The Clerk was asked to
respond to the letter to re-set the initial terms as far as the parish
council was concerned - £15,000 for each of the two years and the PCSO
must be guaranteed to spend 100% of the time in the parish of Cookham.
It was also AGREED that an invitation for Chief Inspector Templer
to meet the Parish Council would be useful.
The Chairman then closed the
meeting with a recent comment from Stephen Brown, RBWM Head of Highways
– he stated that the Causeway is not part of the highway. The meeting closed at 8.35pm.
