OPEN
FORUM
Due to the large numbers of public in attendance, the Chairman extended
the Open Forum from fifteen minutes to thirty minutes. The session
actually lasted 45 minutes. Most of the residents were attending to ask
questions on the publication of The Cookham Plan. The session started with
a comment from Martin Coker asking for the Clerk to make available the
letter sent to Stephen Brown regarding a warning system that would stop
high vehicles getting stuck under Cannondown Railway Bridge. Mr Barry
Weare then opened the questions on The Cookham Plan. There were too many
questions to print in these minutes and at times the questions and answers
were repeated due to the public not listening or understanding the content
of the dialogue. The Chairman reminded members of the public that the
Councillors had to be careful in discussing these details as they could be
accused of predetermination. None of the proposals will be taken further
without full consultation with members of public. The Chairman also said
that it was too early for the Council to make further comment on the
contents as there was almost two years of research and supporting
information to take into consideration. The Parish Office had not yet
received printed copies of the documents for those Councillors without
computers at home. Questions from members of the public included queries
on the timescale of the plan; timescale of any future actions or decisions
from the Council; further opportunities to object to the proposals; who
sanctioned the document; did the Parish Council put any money towards the
Plan; why were the results of the questionnaires ignored; how were the
questionnaires analysed; why was their two versions of the Housing and
Development Working Group documents on the web site; was a full register
of interests in the public domain; were copies of the minutes of the
meetings in the public domain. The Clerk confirmed that she had asked
Richard Simmonds for all the documentation connected with the Cookham Plan
including any registers of interests and the minutes.
Another gentlemen then spoke
about the parking problems in Cookham High Street. He was told that Cllr
John Stretton had been making enquiries at RBWM and the residents and
businesses were encouraged to meet and collectively make a proposal that
would be acceptable to all those who live and work in the High Street. The
Chairman thanked everyone for coming to the meeting to make their views
known.
