Did you go to any fancy dress parties when YOU were a child?

2 September 2002

I thought this feature might appeal to you. It is for the magazine WOMAN and you also get PAID a small sum for helping out. We are putting together a light-hearted article of eight or so people who’ve got photos of them at or on their way to a children’s fancy dress party or similar occasion. The more obscure the costume the better! We’ve already got one woman who went to such a party as a washing machine, made out of an old cardboard box. If you’ve got a PHOTO of you in a suitably daft costume, we’d love to feature you too. The more homemade looking the better.  Maybe you had to get into fancy dress for the town carnival, school play or a gang show-type of spectacle for the Brownies. If that sounds like you, and you can still lay your hands on the photo, please do contact me and we can have a short interview on the phone and sort the feature out. I know many of you who’ve appeared in previous features for the magazine have said it was fun, so I hope this one appeals too. All photos will be returned. So if you can help, that’s great, but if not, please feel free to pass my details on around the office, to friends, family or anyone you think could help out.

I’m at adrian@amonti.freeserve.co.uk or on 01273 777693.

Amnesty International's Zimbabwe web petition

30 August 2002

I would be very grateful if you could draw your groups attention to the new web petition regarding human rights violations in Zimbabwe.  The petition targets South Africa's president Mbeki asking him to use his influence with Mugabe.  With the situation worsening by the day it would  be great if we could get as many people to sign as possible so please circulate the web link as widely as you can.

Please sign it will only take a few seconds. Click below

Old Photos of the Gate Needed

17 August 2002

Chrissie Rosenthal is appealing for an old photo of the Gate public house, subsequently renamed the Old Anchor Inn, for her new book Cookham Voices.

She says "We have now sent the copy for 'Cookham Voices' to the publishers - we'll get the proofs back fairly soon - and that will be our last chance to change things.  We have a problem with our picture of 'The Gate' (or 'The Old Anchor') in that we cannot get permission to use the one we have.  Has anyone a picture of Station Hill or the Gate pre 1950's that we could use.  We would need to get hold of it ASAP or there's going to be a nasty gap in 'Cookham Rise'!!! The book should be out in November if all goes to plan."

If you can help please e-mail Chrissie at rosen@globalnet.co.uk
