Title: Parking Meter Appplication on Cookham Moor
Post by: FionaBeaumont on December 08, 2017, 12:13:59 PM
Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but there is an application to put a Pay and Display machine on the car park on Cookham Moor.
If it were the spring I would be checking the date to see if were an April Fool. I can't think of anything much more out of place in our lovely rural setting. The moor seems to slowly getting increasingly urbanised, they'll want to put concrete tacks down to the river next to save people having to put their wellies on.

I'm not sure if I lived in the village I would appreciate this, as parking in and around the High Street is pretty bad already, and I would have though this would just push traffic that way. I mentioned it to someone and they thought it was because commuters were parking there and then walking to the train station now you have to pay in the station car park.

Thoughts anyone.

It was noted a while ago. The National Trust are implementing the charge, apparently to support the Moor and surroundings.

I agree with you Fiona Beaumont I hate this urbanisation! I just see it as an opportunity to make money. Being the cynic that I am the upgrading of the car park was just the start Im sure it was all pre planned.

I walk to work from the rise to the village and I see a fair number of commuters walking from the village to the station but the Moor car park is virtually empty.  Whilst I do not support the NT charging, I dont agree it's urbanisation, there are many NT car parks in far more rural areas such as the  Lake District and the Yorks Moors that charge and have ticket machines.

I believe National Trust members will continue to be able to park free of charge, either by displaying a windscreen sticker or inserting their membership card into the machine in the same way that some council parking machines work with Advantage Cards.

I feel better about it now I know that you can park free if you are a member of the National trust, because I support and encourage their work, and that seems to make most sense.

I suppose I just hanker after the old days when Cookham was a smaller village, and not so much a tourist attraction.
But then again it is the history of the village that protects it at the same time.....hopefully.
