Title: Central Heating
Post by: Birdman on March 02, 2018, 10:36:01 AM
Just in case it is helpful, my combi boiler started doing the samba on the wall yesterday - strange hummings and rumblings emanating from it. I discovered it was due to ice in the outside condensation pipe that runs from the boiler, despite it being well lagged. (why they have to be installed mainly outdoors I am not sure).

So a couple of kettles of WARM (not boiling) water poured down it soon freed it and the boiler stopped shouting at me, (and probably saved me a packet for a call-out!.)

Its happened a lot over the last few days. featured on tv as well.
warm water over the pipe. On one occasion the pipe wasnt safely accessible where it was frozen so they cut the pipe indoors and fed it into a bucket temporarily. Good idea.
