The RBWM Children's Services Overview and Scrutiny Panel are meeting to discuss the admissions policy for children starting secondary school in September 2011 on 23rd March 2010.  Its Chairman is Cllr J Evans, Vice Chairman is Cllr Cynthia Pitteway.  This panel will advise the RBWM Cabinet, who make a decision.

The RBWM Cabinet will meet on 25th March 2010 to consider the recommendation of the Children's Services Overview and Scrutiny Panel, and decide what the admissions policy will be for children starting secondary school in September 2011. The Cabinet rejected the Panel's recommendation for the September 2010 admissions process, which was made last year.  The Chair of the Cabinet is Cllr Burbage and the councillor representing school issues on the cabinet is Cllr Quick.

I think that inputs and responses  to these meetings is something that could be discussed at Moor Hall on 16th March.

Fiona offers good advice.

The Children's Services Overview & Scrutiny Panel is a public meeting at 7.30pm on March 23rd, although it may need to move from the Ascot & Bray Rooms at the Town Hall in Maidenhead to a rather larger room if the people of Cookham make their presence felt, as I hope they will.

Those reviewing the 2011 secondary admissions policy have been left in no doubt that the mess this year cannot be repeated.  Changes are now being considered.  Whether they are ready for March 23rd, time will tell.  It may be that the Panel and Cabinet need to use all of the time up to the deadline for the policy in mid April to get it right.

As the Lead Scrutiny Chair at RBWM, I oversee the scrutiny process and can assure you that this issue will be scrutinised within an inch of its life ... something which the dubious consultations made very difficult when the changes were adopted in March 2009.
