We have had another leaflet brought to our attention, which is being distributed to homes around the borough. It is headed "Clothing Collection" and purports to be raising money for a breast cancer prevention programme.

This is not a genuine charity collection and we have no way of knowing, if the clothing people that donate, or the money raised from its sale, ever gets to the cause mentioned on the leaflet. The company, whose name appears on the leaflet, was dissolved earlier this year which makes this, all the more suspicious.

Unfortunately, any action that we might take over this, is likely to be extremely time consuming with little chance of catching up with the people who are actually responsible.

They  don't get involved with the day to day collections and frequently change their names, business details, phone numbers etc, to avoid detection.

Our advice therefore, is that residents should ignore these leaflets and only donate to recognised charities.
