I have worked with ‘Repair with Care’ for at least 10 years and have always found every single one of the services they offer, to be absolutely first rate and always handled sympathetically. One of their many functions is to help you to maintain an independent life, in your own home - for as long as possible.

Many residents – particularly in the Royal Borough - are ‘capital’ rich – the value of their homes, but ‘cash’ light. If a roof needs replacing, or plumbing needs updating, that can cause enormous problems and worry. Some simply cannot afford it and continue to live in damp, or unhealthy conditions for long periods of time. Julie Howard and a team of other wonderful people, try to help in this situation, by ensuring everyone receives all the benefits to which they are entitled and if necessary, will try and find money from Trusts and other organisations, to ensure the work can be completed and you remain in your home.

They worked closely with us during the ‘SAFE AS HOUSES’ campaign – it was their carpenters who carried out all the security work in Maidenhead properties. We must also thank Lee Campbell and his team at Windsor Housing for doing the same for properties in Windsor & Ascot.

As I have said, that project was very successfully concluded in April of this year - we had helped to secure 1,000 homes. Because we had done so well, the Home Office offered us and we achieved, an additional stretch target of 300 homes; for which we received an additional grant. We put this money together with funding from RBWM, and together with our Partners, have been able to extend the project under the title of ‘SECURE WITH CARE’ and details are below and attached.

If you feel you, or someone you know, fits the criteria and comes within the target group set out below, email me at:

and I will arrange for a preliminary visit from a PCSO / Policeman / Caroline, who will carry out a ‘Home Burglary Survey’ to assess your security. We will then pass this onto Julie and her team, to have all the necessary security work carried out. It could not be simpler.

Over to the REPAIR WITH CARE team:

Repair with Care is a service funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and operated on their behalf, by Maidenhead and District Housing Association. Older and disabled people are supported and we arrange for essential repairs, improvements and modifications to their homes, so that they can continue to live independently. The service is designed to offer ‘owner-occupiers’ and ‘private sector tenants’ in the Borough advice and project management and to carry out essential works.

This is a new service being provided for older and or disabled people in receipt of benefits, living in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. It enables us to offer free installation of external locks for doors and windows to make residents more secure. To obtain this service you have to be over 60 and those who are not in receipt of benefits, can be offered an estimate by our approved contractors.

We have had our handyperson service running since Repair with Care started in 2001, the service helps clients to have small DIY jobs carried out within their home. Brian has a range of skills which are available for even those small jobs you find it difficult to get done.

This service is provided free of charge for residents in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead who are aged 60 and over or registered disabled. A home visit can be arranged whereby an assessment can be carried out.

I hope this helps ?
