Another flowering beauty that bloomed every Spring on Widbrook East, sadly I seems that this is no more. I am talking about the Marsh Marigold.

In the clip number 4 I have brought up the history of the extension of Maidenhead into the Parish of Cookham in 1934. The Southey fields have a lot of happy memories, for me it was my happy hunting ground for rabbits.
So turn up your sound and watch and listen:

We now come around to a little known or remembered air crash that took place in  Lower Southey in August 1940. So turn up your sound and listen.

The map this time covers a much larger area and also goes back to Saxon and Danes and a battle that was fought along the Cliveden Reach. Next week I leave for the South Pacific for Christmas and New Year. I hope to have fresh tales in the New Year.

Like last and for several years now we love to get away to our island paradise of Rarotonga. While I am away and the days I am not filming, I will be listing more history of the Cookham of yore!
So a Merry Christmas to one and all. So turn up your sound for some local island flavour:

Just to say that we have arrived safe and sound on Rarotonga, and enjoying the Maori hospitality. I have been Drone flying and  gathering more video and still material.
So once again have a Merry Christmas.

We are now back and recovering from our annual trip to the Cook Islands and to digging up more village history. I now go back some 83 years when I started school at Holy Trinity and my first teacher a Miss Collins. Also recalling some of those who attended my class during that period. Yes you may find your mother or father or grand parents mentioned here:

So turn up your sound, you may learn a little family history.

This next clip covers a eighty year span. I was wondering if anyone such as children or grandchildren could come up with something similar. As I would be surprised if any of my old class mates could.

I gave this posting a full two weeks to see if there were any replies. I know like myself quiet a few of my class mates have moved elsewhere in the country, gone abroad to other commonwealth countries or to the USA. Or sadly at an early age have shed their mortal coils. As I remember those families I will recall them here.

We are still with Holy Trinity School and the year is 1898. Yes this was taken 120 years ago. In it happens to be my eight year old father.

When I was a boy growing up and young folk found a profession that took them away from home. They often found they had to move into a Boarding House or an Apartment. In the late 1800's there were several houses in Cookham that catered for such workers. This is the story of one of the houses.

Before moving on to other apartments or boarding houses in the village, I thought you should look at a village map that is over 200 years old. It will give you an idea of why the village should be preserved at all costs. I have suggested that you print off a copy of the map and take a walk around the village and note the changes, the majority of which has taken place since 1950.

There was a farmhouse, which today is known as Eastgate. This grade II listed building has also some Hatch connections as you will find out in this clip.

We now move to the house next door "Wisteria Cottage." It was held by the various members of the Hatch family for quite a few year up until 1936.
