A multi-million pound expansion programme could create thousands of school places for the next generation.

Over the next 15 years the Royal Borough is looking to have invested £277 million to give children in the borough the best start in life.

On Thursday 23 November cabinet will be asked to approve a feasibility study into the major expansion programme which would create around 8,900 school places across the borough.

The school expansion programme will ensure infrastructure to support the emerging Borough Local Plan is delivered when and where it is needed.

Cllr Natasha Airey, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We want every parent to have a choice of where to send their child.

“Creating robust, adaptable infrastructure is crucial to help the emerging Borough Local Plan make our borough the best it can be.

“Some 86 percent of schools in the borough are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ so it makes sense to support and enhance these excellent facilities wherever possible.

“We need to act now to secure school places for the borough’s children and ensure we have the right infrastructure in the right place at the right time.”

This feasibility study would explore a £244 million investment to create around 20 extra forms of entry across all age groups by 2032 and enhanced provision for young people with Special Educational Needs and early years settings.

The programme of expansion could also see six new school sites created across the borough and existing schools expanded.

The Royal Borough has already pledged £33 million to ongoing school expansion programmes since July 2016.

Class intakes at Windsor Girls’ School, The Windsor Boys’ School, Cheapside CE Primary School, Charters School, Cox Green School, Dedworth Middle School and Furze Platt Senior School have already been increased.

A public consultation is underway on the expansion of St Peter’s CE Middle School.
