A man and woman who illegally dumped a prefabricated garage in Maidenhead have been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds after a council-led investigation.

Kathleen McDonald and Craig Pepin were caught on CCTV fly tipping outside the Esso service station in Shoppenhangers Road last year.

McDonald, 27, and Pepin, 38, travelled to Maidenhead on Saturday 11 February 2017 to collect a prefabricated garage advertised for collection on social media.

They loaded the garage’s concrete and wood sections onto a trailer attached to McDonald’s Isuzu pick-up truck and drove away.

Later that day they pulled into the Esso service station on Shoppenhangers Road and CCTV footage shows Pepin dumping the waste by the forecourt.

Staff reported the fly tipping to the council on Monday 13 February 2017 and the duo were interviewed at a police station.

Cllr Jesse Grey, cabinet member for environmental services (inc. parking and flooding) said: “We will always try to prosecute those who fly tip in our borough.

“It is a senseless crime and landowners and our residents are left to pick up the bill for clearing away the rubbish.

“I hope this conviction serves to deter anyone else thinking of committing a similar offence.”

McDonald and Pepin appeared before Reading Magistrate’s Court on Friday 19 January 2018 and each admitted one count of illegally dumping concrete and wood contrary to the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

McDonald of Portsmouth Road, Bramshott Chase, Hindhead, Surrey, was fined £524 and told to pay costs of £300 and a £52 victim surcharge. Pepin of Bedford Lane, Ascot, was fined £450 and told to pay costs of £300 and a £45 victim surcharge.

If you witness fly tipping you can report it to the council at
