Four areas of Berkshire now have coronavirus infection rates of more than 700, according to the latest Public Health England.

The latest figures up to the week ending Monday, January 4, show big rises in Slough, Bracknell Forest, Windsor and Maidenhead and Reading.

All these areas now have an infection rate of more than 700 cases per 100,000 people in the borough over the past seven days.

Slough's infection rate remains the highest and now stands at a 1172.9, a substantial rise from 781.7 the previous week.

This works out as 1,754 new cases in just a week, which makes it the 24th highest in the country.

Bracknell Forest's rate is also now above 800.

The latest figure is 808.7, rising from 665.9 - 991 new cases.

Windsor and Maidenhead's figure stands at 727.1, up from 588.4, with 1,101 new cases and Reading's at 712.1, up massively from 456.2 and 1,152 new cases.

Wokingham's figure is slightly lower at 593.7, but the borough has recorded 1,152 new cases.

West Berkshire's figures remain the lowest in the county at 418.4, which has risen from 33.9.5.

However, this still means 663 new cases.

The latest figures come as Berkshire recorded 1,000 new cases on Friday, January 8.

It has also been revealed the majority of covid patients have at least one symptom six months on from having the virus.

Bosses at Royal Berkshire Hospital have also revealed they are now dealing with more patients than the first wave of the virus last year.

The highest area in the country is Barking and Dagenham in London, with a rate of 1,687.1, which is 3,592 new cases.
