We've just had another fantastic holiday at our beloved Cookham. Gorgeous walks, brilliant sunsets, the weather was glorious. Caught up with old friends. A huge thank you to everyone at The Bay Tree on the High Street for wonderful meals and excellent company as always! Does anyone know why the peacocks aren't "calling" any longer up on Winter Hill when the sun sets? Would be interested to know where they have gone. We'll be back soon.

Saunders Family of Bray and Cookham, Maidenhead
Does anyone living in Bray or Cookham know of any ancestors called Edwin and Harriet Saunders (nee Cartland)? They had children called: Arthur, George, William, Walter, Susan and Alice. They lived at Portland Place, West Street in Cookham. Also Moffat Street in Bray. James, Edwin's brother was the Chief Superintendent of Special Police of the Great Western Railway.
Edwin's son William ran an iron foundry in Bray/Cookham, and his brothers were Gothic iron workers. William Saunder's son moved this foundry down to Black Rock in Brighton , where they made gates for the Library, Roedean, The Royal Pavilion, and some very large houses in the area.
If anyone can give me any information on these 'past' ancestors of Bray and Cookham in Maidenhead, I would be extremely grateful.
Many thanks

Great little website, I have so many good memories of living in Cookham 1973-1994.looking at the website has made me want to come and visit again but I know that it has all changed.
Gone are the thirteen pubs, only a few left now.
I guess a sunday afternoon walk with a visit to the Crown to sit in the sun on the moor will have to do.

Another great visit to Cookham on a lovely summers Sunday, once again frequented the Ferry, as superb as ever.
What inspired me in originally finding Cookham was the 1st ever episode of The Saint - Simon Templar, starring Roger Moore, it was called The Talented Husband, with Derek Farr & Shirley Eaton.
